A Home on the Road Orono was literally invaded on Friday, when approximately approximately 40 trailers and mobile homes arrived in the Orono Fairgrounds. This is of course a travel club called "The Good Sam Club", and members are from far and near! Members from as far away as Texas, and we met one couple, Mr. and Mrs. Slaggart, Coe Hill, who by the way knew the late Rev. Basil Long and Rev. and Mrs. Wayne Wright. (A small world, isn't it? ) The membership is made up of all ages and many little folk, teenagers and of course senior citizens. Newcastle Church Service The combined services of Kirby, Orono and Newcastle congregations was held in Newcastle on Sunday, Aug. 5. The young couple have now returned to Holland where John starts his 11th year playing professional hockey. Newcastle Celebration Civic Holiday Monday was celebrated in Newcastle by the grand opening of the main street! Beautiful planters, and flower beds in front of the Town Hall created a lovely setting for the celebrations. Mr. Murray Patterson of the local Business Improvement Association called the group to order and extended welcome to the crowd. Murray says "We have always had the finest town hall in the area, and now the best main street." This is an endeavour that has taken many years of planning planning and bringing many groups together. Mr. Sam Cureatz, M.P.P., brought greetings and complimented the local business community. Mr. Allan Lawrence added his compliments to all involved. Mayor Garnet Rickard said the completion of the project "Rekindles the old community spirit, and was started six years ago. Some of those involved involved - Province, Regional Government, Newcastle Hydro Commission, Bell Telephone, Telephone, etc., all co-operated to complete the attractive main street we see today!"
