Regional Scout Dinner The banquet for the Presidents Presidents and Commissioners of the Quinte Region Boy Scouts of Canada was held in Orono United Church hall on Thursday, Thursday, April 5, with 49 in attendance. attendance. Mr. Dewar had been an officer with the Durham Regiment and recalled in the 1940's how the troops had marched from Lindsay to Orono and had stayed all night, some in the Armories and the rest in the old Orono arena, sleeping on the then sawdust floor. Unit No. 1 ladies met Wed., April 4, in the church hall, with Bertha Touchburn and Jessie Watkins in charge of devotions. The theme on "Easter." Dorothy Barnett and Stella Carson rendered a very enjoyable duet "Nailed to the Cross." Bertha White gave a reading "You Are only Old Once." Dorothy Barnett gave our "Mission Moment." This one written by Rev. Hughes, of Kedron United Church. Our D.H.I.A. banquet was very successful. A letter was read from Rev. and Mrs. Ralph Hills, missionaries in Zambia. Leila Werry told of the part of her trip which took in Tahiti and the Fiji Islands. Betty Major and Nettie De Jonge gave a very inspiring devotional on "Easter." Leader Joan Hollingsworth presented the business portion and this included preparing plans for our upcoming "Fashion Show," to be held May 30. Fashions will be courtesy courtesy of "Deb's Fashions" and will feature local models. We are all assisting with the fair board banquet on Wed., April 11 in our church. Isabelle then led in a meditation meditation entitled "Hands," and everyone participated with readings and their thoughts. The ladies of Unit No. 4 met at the home of Marie Tamblyn with Pam Werry and Marie giving the devotions on "Easter." The guest speaker for the evening was Mrs. Erla Jose of Newcastle and she brought us an exciting talk and slides on Camp Quin Mo Lac. Leskard ladies of Unit No. 5 met at the lovely new home of Mrs. Betty Murdock, in Oshawa, on Wed., April 4. The leader Violet Sutcliffe welcomed welcomed the ladies and opened with a reading. A great teal of business and correspondence were dealt with, and the spring sure looks busy to these ladies! The possibility of a spring auction sale and other catering duties will keep us going. Bud Grant gave the devotions devotions "Miracles at Easter." Guest speaker, I. Challice, Orono, brought news of our supply requirements for the year and our debt to those less fortunate! A short program on "hands" was also given and we are reminded that "God gives us two hands, one to give and one to recieve." We are sorry to report the sudden passing of one of Leskard's popular citizens, in the person of Mrs. Dorothy Holmes. Dorothy passed away Saturday a.m. April 7. The funeral was held from Toronto on Monday. Dorothy will be sadly missed by her many friends and neighbours and sympathy of the community to her family. St. Saviours Church News Our Outreach Walkathon is on Saturday morning, May 12 starting and finishing at St. George's parish hall, Newcastle. Newcastle.
