i Dutchman Bantams Continue to Lead The major bantams continue continue to lead the standings in the first round of playoffs with three wins and only one loss for a total of six points. Their game played in Cobourg was a disappointment for the team as they were defeated by a score of 6 - 4. Bowmanville •goals were scored by Chris Beck, Brian Noble, Chris Shmyr and John Romano and assists were earned by George Pithie, Mike Gallant, Romano, Beck, Noble and Shmyr. David Smith played in net for the Toros and faced 26 shots while the opposition goalie faced 30. Cobourg had the pressure on throughout the game and had a 4 - 0 lead before the Toros got on the board. They scored three straight goals to come within one and things were looking good going into the third, but Cobourg struck early and the Toros couldn't overcome their deficit. The game on Saturday in Lindsay ended up on the plus side for the Toros as they handed their hosts a 4 - 2 defeat. There was no scoring in the first, but the Toros drew first blood early in the second on a shorthanded goal by Scott Page set up by Brian Noble. Kelly Armstrong blasted a beautiful shot past the goalie just under two minutes later to put the Toros up by two. The puck was relayed to his point position by Chris Shmyr and John Romano during a power- play. Lindsay finally found the range at the 11:25 mark but John Romano got back the two goal spread when he scored for the Toros. Linemates Shmyr and Gallant set up the goal. Jamie Lever got the team's 4th goal when he slipped slipped into the slot from his point position and fired a screen shot into the net. Noble and Pithie set up the goal and created the screen. Lindsay scored with just over a minute left in the game but it was a case of too little, too late. Scott Webster played well, facing 18 shots while our shooters shooters tested Lindsay 36 times. Now that the entire team has been introduced through the pictures seen weekly in the Statesman the players would like to thank the local merchants merchants involved in this venture and special thanks to the James Publishing Co. and Mr. James for their work in the great coverage of the team. The game was played in Bowmanville Arena before a large crowd. Tonight, they play in Lakefield and tomorrow in Orono Arena. Here, Brad Clemens scores the first goal in the third period on a power play. The Cowan Pontiac Jr. C. Eagles got back on track with an 8 to 4 victory over the Lakefield Chiefs Sunday night in the Eagles' nest. The Eagles now trail two games to one in the best of seven series after losing 8 to 4 to the Chiefs Tuesday night in the Eagles' nest (their first loss on home ice this year) and losing 5 to 2 in Lakefield on Wednesday night after holding a 2 to 0 lead Building through the second midway period. The Eagle team looked like the team they can be after fumbling through the first period in which Lakefield assumed a 2 to 1 lead. The Eagles had three goal posts when they had the goaltender beaten and only one goal, a short handed effort by Dayrell Rowe from Shaughn Houston. Gain Playoff Points Bowmanville 3 - Pickering 3 The Toros opened the scoring scoring in this exciting game. Nicky Dennis deflected a shot from Jeremy Laird and along with some good skating the local lads got. off to a fine start. It did not last however and the Toros started giving the puck away. In spite of some fine stops by Robert Romano too many mistakes cost the Toros the lead and Pickering went ahead by a goal. Nicky then put in a great effort and equalized the score on an unassisted goal. With the score tied at 2 - 2 the Toros had a man advantage but Pickering took the initiative and scored a goal. The Toros had plenty of chances but were not successful in scoring a goal until Nicky directed a shot from Marc Peirce into the Pickering net to equalize the score. Toros 3 Ajax 3 Another point for the Toros as they took an early two goal lead. The Ajax team hacked away at the lead and the Bowmanville boys. Ajax re ceived 13 penalties whilst the Toros took only four and were a credit to themselves in not retaliating when provoked. The final Toros goal was scored late in the second period. Scoring summary: Nicky from Paul Hindman and Phillip Green; Paul from Nicky and Phillip and finally Jim Pithie from Marc. The Eagles fell behind 3 to 1 after five minutes of the second period and then suddenly suddenly came to life to score two goals in one minute and eleven seconds, the first a power play goal by Bob Dwyer from Chris Michelson and Barry Goulah, then Brian Keenan from Paul Reed and Tim Preston. The Eagles ran into a rash of penalties, | and the Chiefs scored another power play goal at 12:02 tOjtoke a 4 to 3^ lead but only one minute later" Brian Heard scored from Dayrell Rowe and Brad Clemens to get the Eagles even at 4.
