I ) Two New Exhibitions Opening at Art Gallery Of Northumberland Turbine Drive Coming to Darlington Section Two The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, February 22,1984 15 February Birthdays Hi! Grandparents are Ted and Chris Yalowega of Toronto Toronto and Lydia Jeffers of Toronto. Great grandmother grandmother is Eva Yalowega of Windsor, Ontario. Kendal WJ. Meeting March 14 "The Audience" by Viktor Tinlk and "Prints and Drawings of Simon Tookoome" "The Audience", an exhibition exhibition by Viktor Tinkl opened in the Main Gallery at the Art Gallery of Northumberland on Friday, February 10th. ' It consists of 85 figures, 18 to 70 inches high displayed on six tabletop units. This amazing array of human, animal and mythical figures makes up a symbolic 'Audience.' While on display themselves, they also observe, and act out all the fantasies which might be in the minds of members of 'The Audience'. Viktor Tinkl resists esoteric descriptions of his motivation as an artist. His statement in the catalogue of a recent Art Gallery of Ontario exhibition (Collins Pachter Tinkl) was a simple declaration. "As a child I liked making things. I still like making things." As well as providing an outlet outlet for Tinkl's fertile imagination imagination this exhibition is an exercise exercise both in variations on a theme, that of Figure - Chair; and in the manipulation of the material - a strip of sheet metal. KENDAL ( Intended for Last Week. ) The Kendal W.I. met at the home of Mrs. Barb Holland on Feb. 8 with nine members present. A lovely luncheon was served served by the hostesses Mrs. Barb Holland and Mrs. Barb Cathcart. The meeting closed with 0 Canada and a vote of thanks to our host. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Dorothy Turansky on March 14. (This Week's News) Miss Jane Dekkers, Oshawa, spent Wednesday, Feb. 15 with her sister Mrs. Audrey Gossen and sons Michael and Tommy. Del Gossen and Gwen MacDonald from Newcastle spent last Thursday in Toronto shopping at the Eaton's Centre. Neighbors and friends of Mrs. Mabel Elliott were sorry to hear that she had returned to Bowmanville Hospital last week. We wish her a speedy recovery and hope she will soon be back home again. Mrs. Mary Morris visited with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Stapleton last Sunday and had supper there. Other visitors with the Stapletons on Sunday were Miss Cindy West and friend Dennis Guimend from Toronto, also Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cook of Bowmanville. Tinkl has exhibited at many galleries including: Merton Gallery, Toronto, 1978; Saidye Bronfman Centre and Art Gallery of Windsor, 1979; Art Gallery of Northumberland, 1980; Art Gallery of Cambridge Cambridge and Art Gallery of Peterborough, 1982; Thunder Bay National Exhibition Centre and Art Gallery of Brantford, 1983. One of our most popular exhibitions was Viktor Tinkl's "Applejuicecan Parade" in 1980. It consisted of an assembly of 13 table top platoons platoons of musicians, majorettes, majorettes, horsemen, dragons, roosters, cats and assorted fantasy creatures. These were created out of apple juice cans, wood and odds and ends which were cut, carved, painted or shaped and were remarkable for the technical ingenuity alone, not to mention the visual impact of the three-dimensional figures. In the Paul Kane Gallery, the works of Simon Tookoome will be on display. He is an Inuit artist and printmaker (born 1934) working in Baker Lake, N.W.T. Unlike many of his fellow draughtsmen, Tookoome does both drawing and his own printmaking, effectively translating his complex, accomplished drawings drawings into bold, colourful prints. Both drawings and prints by Tookoome are included in this exhibition providing an opportunity opportunity to compare the artist's treatment of both media. The works illustrate Tookoome's interest in such artistic techniques techniques as the interaction between between positive - negative space and multiple forms and in such traditional subjects as spirits, transformation and shamanism. This exhibition is on loan to the Art Gallery of Northumberland Northumberland from the McMichael Canadian Collection, Klein- burg, Ontario, which is an agency of the Government of Ontario, assisted through the Ministry of Citizenship and Culture. Both exhibitions run from February 10 to March 4. No admission charge. Gallery Hours: Tuesday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m. milllllllllllllMTTTTIITI BOB PHILLIPS T.V. FARM BRIEF Zambia Gives Agriculture High Priority Canadians are helping the African country of Zambia develop an economically- viable agriculture industry. In 1979, four agricultural economists from Agriculture Canada began a five-year program concentrating on training Zambians in highly- technical areas. Currently there is a shortage of such experts in the country. The training includes at least one year of on-the-job training under a Canadian economist, university training in Canada to at least the Master's degree level in some field of agriculture economics, followed by more on-the-job training. These experts will then take over the agricultural development in the country. We know you're busy. So once again ID Bankoflers Extended hours for last-minute RSP's.
