Raiders Tie On Feb. 11th, Prout's Pee Wee Raiders opened their playoff series with a tie game against the strong Hutton transport club. It was a well played exciting game for both clubs with lots of action at both ends of the rink. Prout's opened the scoring early in the first period with a nice little shot by Gilbert Holder assisted by Ivan McDonald. The Prout club really seemed to come alive as they kept skating and working which resulted in another goal by Ivan McDonald, assisted by David Kichko and Gilbert Holder. Prout's third line came up with a good game also, which consisted of John Rendell, Michael Marritt and Larry Morrison. Long Sault Ski Loppet The first annual Long Sault Conservation Area Ski Loppet will be held on Saturday, February 18,1984 at 10:00a.m. The route will cover 6.4 kilometres kilometres on the route of the advanced (black) trail. The event is open to everyone, but beginners are advised to assess their abilities before deciding to enter, since the course includes some moderately moderately challenging hills. This ski loppet will be cosponsored cosponsored by the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority Authority and the Pine Ridge Cross- Country Ski Club. Members of the Canadian Ski Patrol will be checking the route during and after the race to assist any skiers who are having difficulty. difficulty. A checkpoint will be maintained at the halfway point for safety purposes. Top male ana female finishers finishers in each age category will be awarded ribbons. The age categories are as follows: under 11 years; 12 -15 years; 16- 20 years; 21 - 35 years; 36 - 45 years; 46 - 55 years, and over 55 years. Entrants under 18 years of age will require written parental permission. This may be submitted at the Conservation Conservation Authority office before the event or at Long Sault Conservation Area on the morning of the Loppet. Recreational skiers are requested requested to not use the 6.4 km black trail between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 18, 1984. Other ski trails will remain open. To reach the area, go north on Regional Road 57 to Regional Road20 (Concession Road No. 9), then east for one mile and finally north into the area. Prout's seemed to have control of the game .as their third goal was scored by David Kichko, but late in the second period, Prout's defenseman defenseman Murray Charland received an injury in the chest area. But, it was all for a good cause, the Big Brothers Association of Newcastle. And they did have a good time, even if the pins didn't fall down the way they should. We haven't heard how much was raised, but guarantee there were quite a few stiff muscles .around on Sunday. Rainbow Runners Swim Club Win Ribbons Twelve members of the Rainbow Runners travelled to Oshawa on Sunday to participate participate in a fun meet. Approximately. 250 swimmers swimmers from seven clubs were participating, including 140 in the 10 years and under category. category. The Rainbow Runners scored 74 points and took home their share of ribbons. Stacey Watson was the leading leading scorer for Port Hope with 20 points, placing in the top six in each of the seven individual events entered. Cory Highfield was second with 17 points, Andy Hagerman third with 11 points and Laura Winfield fourth with nine points.
