The Kendal Women's Institute Institute met at the home of Miss Catherine Stewart with about 10 ladies present. The meeting was opened with the W.I. "Ode" and followed followed by the Mary Stewart Collect. Presiding over the meeting was the vice-president vice-president Mrs. Heather Caruso. Mrs. Lenora Stapleton and Mrs. Del Gosson had the program program for the afternoon. They had Mrs. Rose Webster from Mississauga, Ont. and her daughter Darlene Copoc of Scarborough. They had a demonstration on a knitting machine, and many articles she had already made like sweaters, socks, etc. She had a very good supply of lovely yarns which some of the ladies purchased. A delicious luncheon was served at the end of the afternoon by the hostesses, Miss Catherine Stewart and Mrs. Marguer- etta Stevens. Visitors at the home of Mrs. Del Gosson last weekend were Mrs. L. B. Hackey, mother-in- law and nephews Mr. Brian and Michael Hannon, Hamilton, Hamilton, Ont. They also visited Mr. and Mrs. Jim Martin in Oshawa, Mr. and Mrs. Gerry Turner and Jesse were also visitors over the weekend. On Sunday the Potts' families families attended the Baptism of Mr. and Mrs. D. Potts' nephew at Arnprior and were invited to Mr. and Mrs. Wayne McNulty's home at Burns- town. Mr. and Mrs. J. Potts returned home on Monday. Our farmers have been busy and have the silos filled, some two weeks ahead of last year and with the leaves turning to their pretty colors, we must expect some change in weather. The pessimists around predict an old fashioned fashioned winter with snow banks touching the overhead wires and those of us who are optimists optimists are eagerly looking for ^another winter like last year. Oh well next spring we'll see who was right. OBITUARY GERRIT REKKER On Tuesday, September 20th, 1983, at Big Springs, Texas, the death of Gerrit Rekker, aged 70, occurred. The son of Siebe and Jitske (Newland) Rekker, he was born and educated in Holland, and on May 19th, 1938, married Dieuwke Baron. A resident of Orono for 17 years, he had previously resided resided in Maple Grove. He retired retired eight years ago from General Motors of Canada where he had been employed. He was a member of Maran- atha Christian Reformed Church where he served as elder for two terms. Left to mourn his passing are his wife, sons Siebe, John and Gary, daughters Mrs. John Dykstra (Florence), Mrs. Stewart Devries (Jane) and Mrs. Rick Morrison (Ana), 17 grandchildren, two brothers and three sisters. Funeral services were held on Friday at Maranatha Christian Reformed Church. Pallbearers were his sons Siebe, John and Gary, and sons-in-law John Dykstra, Stewart Devries and Rick Morrison.
