WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO LIMIT QUANTITIES. Darlington Park Pollution Clears Beaches at the Darlington Provincial Park are once, again considered to be safe for swimming. Although signs had not been posted to warn bathers at Darlington, swimming at the outer bay ; beach had not been recommended recommended as of last week. The Durham Region Health Unit had found higher-than-normal levels of fecal coiiform bacteria at one of the two Darlington beaches. Had these readings readings persisted, the beach would have had to be closed to swimming. However Pat Walsh, assistant assistant park superintendent, said this week that the quality quality of the water has apparently apparently improved. "It has turned around and it is OK for swimming," he said. Weekly readings to check the condition of the water are made at the Darlington Provincial Park. When high readings were received last ' week, the number of water samples was increased. 6th Annual Sheep Focus Great Success Sheep Focus, the Ontario Sheep Association's promotional promotional and educational sheep fair was held on Friday, July 15 and Saturday, July 16 at the Markham' Fairgrounds, Markham. 2000 producers and consumers consumers attended this two day event including sheep shows and sales, shearing competition, competition, fleece exhibits and sheep dog trials. On Friday the purebred shows and sales were held. The Ontario Suffolk Sheep Association awarded the Champion Suffolk Ram to Kilannan Farms, Annan which was sold to Bill Gard- house, Newmarket for $3100. Reserve Champion Ewe went to Robert Papineau, St. Croix, Quebec. : The Champion Ram belonged to Century Lane Farm, Stits- ville and Reserve Champion Ram to Driscoll Bros., Elora. The . first Sheep Focus Wether Show was also held on Friday. Entries were strong in three classes: Suffolk, Dorset and Open (any other breed). Top Suffolk wether was shown by Wm. McTaggart, Guelph; top Dorset by Dan Emke, Elmwood and top open by Tom Paine, Kerwood. Saturday at Sheep Focus was geared for the R.O.P. Ram & Ewe Show and Sale and the Sheep Focus Commercial Commercial Ewe Sale. The first Sheep Focus Shearing Competition was also held on Saturday. R.O.P. awards were presented presented and the fastest gaining ram Iamb, owned by Tom Friend, Omemee, received the award from the Livestock 1 Division, United Cooperatives of Ontario. The sale average for the R.O.P. Station Tested Rams was $382.30 and the average for the Hometested Ewes was $184.64. The Sheep Focus Commercial Sale received received good quality consignments consignments of commercial breeding breeding stock. Persevering working dogs and their handlers competed in the Dog Trials on both Friday and Saturday. The winning dog in the Open Class was owned by Ralph Pulfer, Quincy, Ohio and the top Novice dog by Philip Hyde, King City. Any sheep showcase must include fleece competitions and exhibits. The Sheep Focus Exhibits Building was alive with carding, spinning, weaving, felting, knitting machines and fashion shows of handmade clothing, Mary Grant, Woodville won the Grand Champion Fleece award and Peggy Stevens, Georgetown won the Reserve. Shepherds from across the province highlighted the two days with samples of some of their favourite lamb recipes including Lamb Wellington, Apple Mint Lamb Shanks and Marinated French Lamb Salad. A booklet of all these tried and true recipes was available to the "tasters" in the audience. Bill Bramah, Global television, was among the guests at Sheep Focus 83 who sampled these fresh Ontario lamb delights and even tried his hand at shearing. shearing.
