Both ways save us from thinking." Leila Werry and Thelma Gilbank have returned from a trip to B.C., Yukon and Northwest Territories. Before returning home they spent the weekend in Edmonton Alta., where Leila visited with her son, Mr. and Mrs. John Werry and Thelma visited her cousin Mrs. Dyson Phelphs. Recently, members of the "May Group" of St. Timothy's Church, North Toronto, were coffee guests of Mrs. Doris Prust, and afterwards at a delicious lunch held at the new Parish hall, St. Saviours, Orono. Lunch was served by the A.C.W. ladies, other guests included Rev. and Mrs. Haldenby, Newcastle; and Mrs. Mary Morris. A social time was enjoyed by all, with Mrs. Elva Meeting winning a lucky draw prize. Mr. Harvey Aiken, Bowmanville Bowmanville and Mr. and Mrs. 0. Challice were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Munneke and boys at their new home in Ski View Estates, Bethany, at a housewarming party. Mrs. Elizabeth Kellett, Oshawa was a Wednesday visitor with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Taylor last week. Mr. and Mrs. David Ferrier and family, Bolton, were Saturday visitors at the home of her parents, The 0. Challice's, Happy Birthday to Edith Taylor and her grandson Walter Sherwin who both celebrate celebrate on Sunday, July 10. It's sure good to hear the old town clock striking every hour. Let's hope it keeps good time all summer. ORONO JR. GARDENERS Orono Jr. Gardeners held a very successful flower basket sale (for decoration day) last Sat. June 25. The members a ed evergreens to put in ets and took turns making arrangements. Thanks to don arrangements. Thanks to Don and Donna Scott who loaned us their garage to work in, as we were out of the hot sun and had shade for the flowers. Members taking part included - Jackie and Peter Cowan, Kevin Scott, Shawn and Jason Knapp, Robin Robinson, Sherri La Ma the, Doug Bradley, Bradley, Daniel Dilks. Leaders in attendance were Mrs. Helen Robinson, Mrs. Yvonne Maitland, Maitland, and Mrs. Donna Scott. We would like to thank those who donated flowers - Kathy Roland, Mr. and Mrs. Baird, Minnie Zegers, Lorna Atkens, Scotts and Robinsons and Haydon Mr. and Mrs. David Pingle and Kenny of Bowmanville spent the weekend with Ian and Cheryl Graham and the boys. Mr. and Mrs. Michael Paterson and family, Kendal, Visited with Mr, and Mrs. Roy Paterson and Brian on Monday. _ Mr. and Mrs. Harry Degeer, Blackstock called on Miss C. Degeer on Sunday afternoon. Pleased to report Haydon Salad Supper was very well attended. It was breezy outside outside and busy inside. TTianks so much to one and all who helped. Without the food - no supper. Without the eaters - a failure. The cook-books sold well. Viola Vanderween. Sixty- seven baskets were sold and we were sorry to turn people away, because of lack of flowers. All Jr. members who donated time to this project will receive points for their achievement award. STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL An excellent crowd enjoyed the annual strawberry supper sponsored by the Orono Horticulture Horticulture on Tuesday evening, June 28, in the main hall of Orono United Church. The tables were well laden with salads of all kinds and ham and the full plates of shortcake disappeared very quickly. The president welcomed everyone and lucky draw winners were given fresh strawberries as prizes. Guest present from the Bowmanville society included Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Tink and the Bowmanville society president, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Downey. A program followed the supper, consisting consisting of piano solos and duets by Mrs. Doris Prust and Mr. Roger Proctor, violin selections selections by Mr. Lloyd Ransberry with Doreen Lowery at the piano. A surprise visitor brought some very humorous news flashes from the Orono area (Charlie Farquison) style, and also a very aged lady brought the funny little story "I'm as fine as I can be." Mr. and Mrs. Tink judged our very small show and certainly certainly showed little or no strain from the ordeal. I Challice Challice won the most points in the show because of lack of competition. We in Orono Horticulture are very proud of our members, members, The Terrils who recently won the Lottario large loot. i Our thanks to everyone who again helped to make this another successful evening. KIRBY NEWS Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Harris spent several days recently at the cottage, Lake Couchaching, with their daughter Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Hird, and then attended attended the graduation of their grandchildren Kevin and Anita Fulford, in Meaford. Mr. and Mrs. James Lowery suffered a severe loss of several animals, struck by lightening, over the past weekend. A very happy occasion.took place Sunday, July 3, at the residence of Sid and Toots Barraball, Park Street, when everyone celebrated Miss Nadine McHugh's leaving soon for a student exchange for one year to Holland. Nadine is the oldest daughter of Don and Sheila McHugh, Bolton and granddaughter of Sid and Toots.
