Fox, Honorary Chairman of the Terry Fox Run to get involved and organize their own run sites. A special effort is being made to encourage Canada's 15,282 schools to organize run sites. Elementary, secondary, colleges, universities universities and private schools have received organizer organizer kits on how to set up their own Terry Fox Run. In her letter to the schools, Betty Fox states "My son's dream to raise money for research research to find a cancer cure continues through The Terry Fox Run. His dream must not die; we need your support to perpetuate his Marathon of Hope. All that is needed is to find that 'someone' in your school willing to take up the organizing challenge." Pledge sheets, applications to establish establish courses and locations of run sites are available available at the provincial Terry Fox Run offices, as well as branches of the Canadian Cancer Society, the Canadian Track and Field Association and Four Seasons Hotels. SUMMARY -- A necessary guide for Ontario sportsmen -- the provincial hunting summary -- has just been released by the Ministry of Natural Natural Resources. The summary, which lists the hunting seasons for fall 1983 and spring 1984, outlines significant changes for moose hunters this year, Natural Resources Minister Alan Pope said recently. It explains the regulations for the province's new selective harvest system for moose, a vital part of a ministry plan to bolster the population of one of our most popular big game animals. Cash prizes, canteen and beer tent are offered. On Tuesday, June 20th, the Bantam Legionnaires lost a heartbreaker in the eleventh inning 3 to 2, to Cobourg. The game was marred by a very unfortunate incident in the top of the fourth inning of the then scoreless game. With two out, Barry Oliver attempted attempted to steal home, The Cobourg Cobourg catcher, rather than blocking the plate and attempting attempting to tag Barry, appeared to jump at him and threw an elbow to the face. The word "appeared" is used as the writer was standing in the 1st base coaches box and may not be completely unbiased in his opinion. As the catcher did not attempt, attempt, nor did he tag Barry, he was safe and scored the tie breaking run. However, his nose was badly broken and after a trip to the Cobourg hospital where five stitches were put in his upper lip, he Pigeon Races The Bowmanville Invitational Invitational Racing pigeon club flew from Grand Mere, Quebec on Saturday, July 2nd, 1983, an air distance of 546 Km. 12 lofts and 77 birds competed for the trophy. The winning bird flew at a speed of 957 meters per minute. 1st, 3rd, and 7th - Ev. Vier- hout. • / 2nd and 4 th - Terry Woolner. 5th - N. & J. Brown. 6th - John Mallery. 8th - Hans Vierkruisen. 9th - D. Woolner and Sons. 10th - R. Krackenberg. was taken to Oshawa General Hospital where doctors operated operated on Barry's nose that night. He was released from the hospital two days later. The Cobourg catcher was immediately ejected from the ;ame as was Barry's twin irother Andrew, who came to his rescue. The Legionnaires scored a second run in the 6th inning to go ahead 2 to 0, but Cobourg got one back in the bottom of the 6th and one in the bottom of the ninth to force the game into extra innings. An unfortunate unfortunate error in the bottom of the eleventh followed by a stolen base and single, enabled enabled Cobourg to score the winning run. ' This was a good exciting ballgame, a great one to win, and a tough one to lose. LOSE 2 TO PETES On Friday, June 24th, the Bantam Legionnaires dropped an ,11 to 8 decision to the Peterborough Petes. Peterborough scored two in the 1st and the Legionnaires got four in the top half of the second to take the lead for the only time in the game, 4 to 2. Peterborough came back with three in the bottom of the second and three in the fourth and took a commanding 8 to 4 lead. Bowmanville came back in the seventh with one, and two in the eighth, however Peterborough Peterborough also scored three to re-establish their former lead. The Legionnaires scored their final run in the ninth. David Aiken pitched three innings of relief and struck out nine batters while giving up three runs on a walk ana two hits. The Bowmanville pitchers pitchers struck out a total of 15 batters and gave up 7 walks. They also led the offense with Chris Werry getting two walks in two trips to the plate, David Aiken going two for three, and Troy Foster one for one. Peterborough returned to Bowmanville on Monday, June 27th, and won going away 13 to 6. The inability to hold runners, and untimely mis- cues turned a close game into a rout. The teams traded runs during the first four innings with Peterborough scoring two in the first and one each in the second and third innings. The Legionnaires scored one in each of the first and second innings and two in the third. After four innings it was a 4 to 4 tie. In the top of the sixth, Peterborough scored five times, all unearned, on only two hits, to break the game open. It was a well played game for both teams. The Royals' Andrea Kichko, Zoe Heath and Shannon Nemisz each scored a run in the first inning, inning, while Newcastle had two. The second inning belonged belonged to the Royals also, with runs scored by Jane Morgan, Erin Hamilton and Karey Starky, while Newcastle Newcastle had one. Then the Royals' infield went to work with a good catch by Crystal Huxter and another by Chris Walkey. The Royals added two more runs, one by Zoe Heath and Shannon Nemisz in the third inning. In the fourth inning Newcastle scored a run while the Royals' Vanessa Vanessa Yeo added a single. The Newcastle team came out hitting in the fifth with four runs, but with the Royals' pitcher Kelly McFeeters pitching a good, game and Christy Nickerson Nickerson catching, combined with their infield, put the next three batters out. The Royals added four more runs from Zoe Heath, Shannon Shannon Nemisz, Crystal Huxter and Chris Walkey. Newcastle Newcastle added a run in the sixth inning, while the Royals' Ruby Huxter hit a well deserved deserved home run. The last inning belonged to the Royals also, with a good catch by Zoe Heath on first and two great catches by fielder Andrea Kichko. The game ended 14 - 9 for the Royals.
