Of particular interest were the Cathedrals of Canterbury and Salisbury, The Estate of the Late Earl of Mountbatten, where Prince Charles and Princess Diana spent the first week of their honeymoon, Plymouth, Land's End, Stone 1 henge, and the Grave of Sir Winston Churchill at Bladon. In all it was a very pleasant vacation. Michael, son of Bonnie and Wayne Ensoll of Pickering. All were very pleased to welcome welcome brother Bill who is convalescing convalescing from a heart attack. A good time was had by all and all are looking forward to next year. George Marlow, son of Mrs. Edith Mitchell, and Thom Park, son of David and Ann Park were recently honoured by the Durham Board of Education, Education, for 25 years of service. George is a Program Superintendent Superintendent and Thom is an Elementary school principal. They both are graduates of the Bowmanville school system. For the dog days of summer there is nothing more purrfect than curling up with a good book. Come to the library and meet a new friend, read some good books. A season featuring the great and familiar composers being performed by some of the top artists in the country has been announced by the Oshawa Symphony Orchestra. A six- concert series grows to eight performances this year with the Symphony's Board of Directors deciding to repeat two of the concerts expected to draw large audiences - Handel's "Messiah" will be performed on a Sunday afternoon afternoon (Nov. 27) as well as the regular Tuesday night (Nov. 29). "A Night with Rogers and Hammerstein" featuring internationally known singers, tenor Mark Dubois and baritone baritone Mark Pedrotti, will be available on a Wednesday night (March 7,1984,) as well as the usual Tuesday (March 6). The additional two nights of performing makes the 83-84 season one of the Oshawa Symphony's most ambitious to. date, with both of these special events expected to draw capacity crowds. Forthcoming Marriage Last Tuesday afternoon, ladies of the unit 2 of the Welcome U.C.W. entertained the May-June birthday people at the Golden Plough. Hazel Tufford was MC and introduced introduced the ladies to the audience. Berniece Best had made corsages corsages for all those with birthdays birthdays and they were pinned on them prior to the program. Mrs. June Nichols sang two beautiful old songs providing her own accompaniment at the piano, "Memories" and "I'll see you again". Charlotte Brimacombe, a pupil of the McKay school of dancing, very Scottish looking in her kilt, danced the Highland Fling and the sword dance, to the delight of the audience. A skit written by Christine Wilson promoted sympathetic laughter from the audience when Christine played an eighty-year old Janet preparing preparing a table with birthday cake for her visitors who were daughters played 'by Gwen and Berniece Best and sister acted by Dora Nichols and neighbour Barbara Wilson with a bouquet of flowers. The others brought an afghan, shawl and hot water bottle for aching old bones, also lots of warnings about being "careful". Janet was downright downright resentful and welcomed 92 year old Emma Darke who arrived with an airplane ticket to New York and ship cruise around the world which the two had planned. They left the cake and presents to the visitors visitors and promised to send a post card. Cake was served to all of the audieiice with cold ■ drinks and a cheque for $40 was presented to the lodge to help with a bus trip. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Dinner celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary quietly on Sunday, Sunday, June 12th. Their family had entertained them at dinner the evening before. The back yard at the Roy Austin farm home had a very unusual appearance on Saturday Saturday afternoon when the Girl Guides set up a large tent for a 24 hour stay, with a smaller one for supplies. This camp- out was to be done entirely on their own with Mrs. Austin in the background in case of emergency. The evening was filled with all the joyous singing singing and noise of young people having fun. Fortunately, mosquitoes mosquitoes and other biting bugs avoided the high airy location. There were fireflies but they shine instead of sting. The girls made shopping lists, went shopping, cooked their meals on an outdoor fire and on Sunday morning prepared and shared a devotional service. service.
