i Walter Frank's Major Pee Wees Finish Year at L.N.H.L Tourney Ball Hockey Season Underway at Darlington This final report is rather tardy. It will take you back to March 21st' when Walter Frank's Majors were hosted by Orono in an exhibition match. It was a close contest, as Orono took a 1 - 0 lead midway through the 1st period, but Walter Frank's boys scored twice in the 2nd to take a 2 -1 lead on goals by Chris Smith from Jeff Laird and Guy Freeman; and Brad Carnegie from Mark Tripp. Orono evened things up at the 10:30 mark of the 3rd, but the Toros opened a two goal lead when Aaron Ulrich scored from Mark Tripp and Craig Deblois at 9:07; and John Begg notched one from Guy Freeman and Rob Real at 6:51. The fiesty Orono bunch did not give up however, and narrowed the gap to 4 - 3 at 4:38. Finally, with 1:07 remaining, remaining, Brad Carnegie put home the clincher with Rob Real assisting to give Walter Frank's Pee Wees the 5 - 3 victory. On Friday, March 25th Walter Frank's boys travelled to Collingwood for the tournament. tournament. Their first game was against Thorold and was a superb team effort as they walked away with a convincing convincing 9-0 victory. Mark Tripp was a standout as he was on the ice for seven of the nine goals and earned five points - one goal and four assists. Mark was awarded the MVP and deservedly so. Craig Deblois also showed his stuff in the 3rd period when he hit the Bull's Eye - four goals on four shots. Brad Carnegie scored once and earned three assists. The other goal scorers were Chris Smith, Guy Freeman, Freeman, and last but not least Chris Hall. Other assists were BOWMANVILLE TENNIS CLUB Pre-Registration / Fertilizer Sale Date - Sunday, April 24th Time - 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Place - Bowmanville Mall Flea Market . The 2nd game of the tournament tournament found Walter Frank's boys pitted against the host team from Collingwood. Perhaps Perhaps Walter Frank's Pee Wees were riding too high from their victory the previous previous night, because, before they knew it they were desperately desperately trying to overcome a 3 - 0 deficit accumulated in the 1st period. They finally got on track in the 3rd period as they narrowed the gap to 3 - 2, but Collingwood stormed right back with two quick ones to take the new found wind out of the Toros' sails. Walter Frank's boys found the mark once more to close the gap to 5 - 3, and put out a valiant effort with six attackers, but, Collingwood Collingwood "iced" their victory with an open net goal with 28 seconds remaining. Bowman- ville's goals were scored by Brad Carnegie from John Begg; Eric Janssens from .Chris Smith; and Britt Cole from John Begg. That unfortunate defeat put Walter Frank's Majors into the "Bronze" division, which was played on Sunday, March 27th against Hespeler. There is not much to say about this game - it was a "yawner" very little action - very little enthusiasm - net result -3-2 defeat for Walter Frank's Toros, and elimination from the tournament. The Bowmanville Bowmanville goals were scored by John Begg from Brad Rushak; and Mark Tripp from Brad Carnegie. The following weekend was the final round-up, as Walter Frank's boys participated in the LNHL Tournament. Their 1st game was 8 a.m. Good Friday - It was not a Good Friday for Walter Frank's Majors as they were hosted by the LNHL Black Hawks, who. in four previous meetings had three defeats and one tie against the Toros. This was a good Friday for the Black Hawks as they out-shot the Toros 27 -8 and out-scored them 3 - 0. The 2nd game of the tournament tournament found Walter Frank's boys hosted by the Canadiens, who also had not defeated the Toros in three previous meetings. meetings. Walter Frank's Toros put forth a very good effort in this "nail-biter', but could not beat the very hot Canadien ,goal tending. The Toro goal tending was also excellent, but for one heart-breaking play. Result - Canadiens 1, - Toros 0. The heart-breaking play did not belong to the goal-tender alone - it also was a team effort that went a skew. I would like to extend sincere sincere appreciation and gratitude gratitude to Bob Deblois - Coach; Bruce Lush - Manager; and Siegi Rohr - Trainer. It was a long season, guys and your efforts and patience are beyond beyond reproach. The Major Pee Wee team also would like to say "Thank you" to Walter Frank Real Estate for sponsoring them this season. Your generosity is appreciated. Last, but not least, thanks and gratitude go to the Canadian Canadian Statesman for their support, support, to, not only the Major Pee Wees, but to all minor sports organizations. Several men accepted the invitation to attend the Tyrone U.C.W. meeting when Mr. John Finlay, Agriculture Representative, Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Bowmanville Office was guest speaker on April 13,1983. The opening verses of Psalm 24. "The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof ..." was the call to worship. The hymn, , "The earth, the sky, thé oceans," was sung. Pat Drys- dale read scripture from the book of Genesis describing the creation of the earth and the relationship between man, woman, earth and God. Jacqueline Vaneyk read notes on scripture from a Bible study compiled by Mr. Peter McKellar, which discusssed the covenant relationship between between man, woman, earth and God and the incompatible land use claims made before Cain broke the covenant relationship relationship by the act of murder. "According to the covenant mankind is to control the earth, but also to protect and husband it." Hymn 380 was sung, "The world has hungry people, yet our soils produce good grain. Lord, use our skills and practised arts to take away man's pain." This hymn seems to underscore the haunting dilemma of having starving people in some countries. Why the two conditions conditions cannot be reconciled seems to defy solution. Mr. Finlay told us that more countries are returning to the concept of valuing their agricultural agricultural sector. Many aspects of agriculture were spoken of by Mr. Finlay in his address, then he invited questions from the audience. During the business portion of the meeting a note of thanks was read from the 4H Club for support from the U.C.W. Everyone is invited to 4H Achievement Day at. Title played Tuesday night, April 12th in the Thornhill Thornhill Tournament. They easily defeated the Thornhill Islanders Islanders 5 - 0 and Travis Martyn collected a shutout in goal for the Toros. Scoring for the Toros were Kelley Armstrong, Chris Beck, George Pithie, John Romano and Ted Groves. Assists were earned by Chris Shmyr, Brian Noble, Ted Groves, Glen Campbell, George Pithie and Scott Page (two). The Toros returned to Thornhill Friday, April 15th and gained another easy win 7 - 1 over Meadowvale from MTHL. Toros' goals netted by Chris Beck (60th of the year) Brian Noble (four), John Romano and Jamie Downing. Assists went to Brian Noble, Jamie Downing (two), Chris Beck (two), Bob McArthur (two) and George Pithie. The third game of the tournament tournament was played on Sunday, Sunday, April 17th against North west of MTHL and although the Toros dominated the play in the first two periods they couldn't put the puck in the net. In the third period it appeared as though the boys decided they had just about enough hockey for this year and they let up the pressure and let the game end in a 2 - 0 loss. However, it has been a good year and the boys won the most important game of the season so after a summer holiday they'll be back for another good year.
