Durham Building's Pee Wee 2s Waiting For Their First Win 1st Schedule Trophies Wen by Ladies Curlers WORKS PROGRAM -- At Emily, Serpent Mounds, Darlington and Balsam Lake Provincial Parks some 1;200 picnic tables are being rebuilt or replaced, 23 vault privies and comfort stations have been renovated and 150 fireplace grills have been replaced. Boat launching and concession booth facilities are being upgraded at the parks and more than 100 campsites are being brushed out and improved. The work is being carried out by 41 skilled tradesmen and manual workers from the local area. Each receives payment through the program, funded by the Provincial and Federal governments and administered through local sponsors. Unemployed workers have been eager to enroll in the Parks Sector Work Program to exercise their skills and maintain normal work habits. The Bowmanville Red Eagles hosted the Central Ontario Junior 'C' All Stars on Sunday afternoon at the Memorial Arena. The All Stars lived up to their name as they outpowered the Eagles by a 7 - 4 count. League convenor Andy McLauchlan performed the ceremonial face-off to start the game with captains Neil Jones of Bowmanville arid Dave Shippel of Lindsay taking the face-off. BOAT SHOW -- The pride of Canada's boating community will be on display at the 25th anniversary Toronto International Boat Show. Canada 1, the sleek red and white Canadian entry in next fall's America's Cup sailing races, will be a featured attraction at the January 7 -16 Show at Exhibition Place. Show Manager Steve Barber said the Show will attempt to raise $75,000 in support of Canada 1 by donating 50 cents from each admission to the group organizing the Canadian entry in the America's Cup. And a newly-designed 35-foot yacht which will be the centerpoint of a unique cross- Canada challenge in 1984 will also make its appearance at the Show. On Sunday, Dec. 12, the Pee Wee 2 team met with Pickering Pickering at home. Pickering 9 Bowmanville 3. In the first period, two goals were scored by both teams. First goal goes to Scott Brunt, assisted by Paul Hindman. Second goal by Ian Knight, assisted by Terry Evans and Paul Cleland. Toros played well in the first period but let up in the 2nd and 3rd periods. Mark Van Leeuven scored the third goal in the 2nd period, assisted by Scott Brunt and Paul Hindman. Pickering scored four goals making it 6 to 3. Pickering picked up three more goals in the 3rd period, making the final score 9 to 3. On Thursday, Dec. 16 the Pee Wee 2 team travelled to Ajax and played an excellent game of hockey. Ajax lead in scoring until the end of the second period. In the third period Paul Boyle and John- Paul Duczmalewski each scored unassisted goals. Ajax also scored again and won the game 3 - 2. Again we must commend our boys for a fine game of hockey. On Friday, Dec. 16, they went to Cobourg and played a very frustrating game of hockey and lost to Cobourg 5 - 2. Every time we have gone to Cobourg the refereeing leaves something to be desired. Everything considered, the boys managed to keep their cool and play hockey. Goal scorers in this game were Scott Munro, assisted by Paul Cleland, and Paul Boyle unassisted. On Saturday, Dec. 17, they travelled to Thornhill for an exibition game, . The boys played another excéllent game of hockey', losing this time 3 - 2. Troy Harness opened the scoring with an unassisted goal 15 seconds in the first period. Thornhill then scored three goals and our last goal came in the third period, scored by Scott Munro, assisted assisted by Paul Cleland and Paul Boyle. The boys haven't won a game this season but they never seem to give up and are ON THE ROAD -- Cowan Pontiac Red Eagles travel to Port Perry to meet the MoJacks on Thursday, December 30th at 8:30 p.m.,Should be a good game as the teams battle for second place. CLOSE -- Oshawa Generals Jr. A hockey team were so very close to tieing the 25 consecutive games win record set by Toronto Marlboros 10 years ago. With 24 straight wins to their credit, Peterborough Petes spoiled their chances, December 19th in Peterborough, with a 6 - 5 win, over the Generals. HAIRCUT *6.00 December 16th was a cloudy day outside, but inside the Bowmanville Golf Club, the ladies on the afternoon teams were enjoying the Christmas spirit of good company, exchanging exchanging gifts and a few of the girls receiving trophies and prizes. In the morning there were home-made muffins with coffee before the 6 ends of curling began. This was a fun event with leads moving up to play skip. Following lunch, the trophies were presented. The Bank of Montreal Trophy was won by skip Kay Worden and her team, Ruth Willoughby, Joyce Weekes and Bev Balsom, The Ken Nicks Trophy was E resented to skip Lorraine ever and her team, Ede Gearing, Helen Connolly and Millie Vetzal. McGregor Miner Bantams Chalk Up Two Victories On Dec. 18th, McGregor Minor Bantam Toros played a league game with a determined determined Ajax team but our boys ended the game with a 8 - 2 win. The first period there was no score for either team but in the second period the Toros left their mark. George Pithie netted the first goal with linemate Brian Noble assisting. assisting. Ted Groves scored No. 2 and 3 and Brian Noble added another assist. Assists also went to Scott Page and Jamie Downing on the 3rd goal. Jamie Downing put in No. 4 and Ted Groves and Scott Page collected assists. Chris Shmyr put on the 5th light, unassisted. George Pithie added his second goal, Brian Noble and Scott Page collected collected their third assist. In the 3rd period, the Toros added two more goals. Jamie Downing scored from Glen Campbell and Ted Groves. Brian Noble rounded off the scoring to finish the game with an 8 - 2 win. Jamie Lever assisted on Brian's goal. Dec. 19 th, the Minor Bantam Toros played the Little NHL Canadiens who are tops in their league and again the Toros skated to a 8 - 2 win. Glen Campbell opened the scoring in the first period, Chris Shmyr collecting the assist. John Romano scored No. 2, unassisted. Glen scored his second goal at the start of the 2nd period, unassisted.
