Ponoka United Church was the setting for the marriage of Dawna Louise Reader " and Wayne August Rodney on Saturday, August 7th, 1982. The Reverend Dale Irving officiated at the double ring ceremony. The bride is the youngest daughter of Ernest and Eileen Reader of Bowmanville. The bridegroom is the youngest son of Tom and Helen Rodney of Ponoka, Alberta. The bride wore a Victorian ivory gown with a fitted bodice which had appliques of lace and featured an empire waistline. waistline. The neckline edged in ruffled lace enhanced the gown. Given in marriage by her parents the bride was radiant in a formal gown of white silk chiffon which featured a wedding band collar of silk embroidery, an appliqued bodice, leg of mutton sleeves with a frill at the wrists, and a waterfall train. A silk flowered flowered wreath held a scalloped, tiered veil, with an embroidered embroidered edge, and dotted with seed pearls, and she carried on her arm, long stemmed red roses and baby's breath. One has an excellent background in the Public Health field, and the other has had a distinguished career in agriculture. He is a member of the Agricultural Institute of Canada, and is Past President and Secretary for the Quinte Branch of the Ontario Institute of Agro- logists. News By Sam Laskaris On Monday, Dec. 20th, in the B.H.S. gym, the Paul Dwyer Saints from Oshawa provided the opposition for Bowmanville Bowmanville in exciting Lake Ontario Secondary School Association basketball action. From the three games that were played we have some good news and some bad news to report. In the midget game, B.H.S. was seeking its fourth victory in as many games. Bowmanville Bowmanville led throuthout most of the game but in the final minute of the game were still trying to achieve victory. Despite the team's valiant efforts to score, Paul Dwyer ended up winning by a single point. Final score was 46 - 45 for Paul Dwyer. Rod Tukker once again led B.H.S. in scoring, hitting for 29 points. The junior team at B.H.S. continues to struggle. They were defeated for the fourth straight time, this time to the tune of 82 - 23. Top scorers for Bowmanville were Dan Peters and Bruce Cooke with six points each, followed by John Theriault with five points. Now for the good news. The senior Redmen finally won their first game of the year, defeating Paul Dwyer 6l'- 44. The team played as one unit for the entire game, which is essential for success. Chris DeSouza led Bowmanville's offence with a 22 point performance. Rookie Ken Daize connected for 14 points, Tobin Rowe hit for nine points and George Wind chipped in with six points, The next league game for all three B.H.S. teams will be played on Tuesday, January 4th in Pickering, Last Tuesday was the dale of the B.H.S. Annual Senior Grad Game. This game featured the present senior Redmen against players who played for the senior team at B.H.S, at one lime or another in their high school careers. In what was expected to lie a romp for the Grads, the game turned out to he a close one with the Grads winning hv a score of 51) - 52, In the first half, the Grads Elizabeth Schaefer Elizabeth Schaefer of Oshawa is Director of Public Health Nursing Services at the Durham Regional Health Unit, and has held important posts in the community. She was Chairman of the Search Committee for the District Health Council, and has been a member of the Health Sciences Advisory Committee at Durham College. She was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Faith Place and Region Representative for the Association of Nursing Directors Directors and Supervisors of Official Health Agencies. She has served on several task forces for the Ministry of Health and was Chairman of Mental Health Durham. Currently she is a member of the Long Term Care Committee Committee and the Substance Abuse Committee of the District Health Council, and serves on the Board of Directors of Durham House. She is a member of the Post-Partum Committee of the Oshawa General Hospital, and is President of the Soroptimist International of Oshawa and District. controlled most of the play and at halftime found themselves themselves leading 44 - 30. In the last two quarters however, the B.H.S. Redmen outscored the Grads in each quarter to make a game out of it. Todd Hooper (who was the key factor in Bowmanville's .win-ring of,the'. L.O.S.S.A. championship last year) was the top scorer for the Grads, accumulating 26 points. Paul Roughley and Ron King also made their presence known, connecting for 13 and 10 points respectively. Chris DeSouza was the top gun for the Redmen, hitting for 21 points.
