Lake Trout competition relaxed a little this year with the prize winning fish coming In 5 pounds shy of last year's winner, Bill Hunter of Brooklin, Ontario took first place with a 34 pound 7 ounce "laker" which he caught in LakeTemagami. Several 7 and 8 pound Largemouth Bass were entered but couldn't compete with Ralph Bellamy's 8'/ a pounder. Ralph is from Agincourt and bagged his huge catch in Glanmire Lake, Tudor Township using a frog for bait. Number one Smallmouth Bass is the same weight as last year's winner, tipping the scales at a whopping 7 pounds 5 ounces. The first place prize went to Thomas Klonis from Pottstown, Pennsylvania and was caught at Clear Lake in South Crosby Township. Harry Casian of Lake Placid, Florida, topped the Northern Pike category with his 31 pound "Northern" captured from the Serpent River. Eleven of the top 15 pike were taken by nonresident nonresident anglers. A beautiful "Brookie" took the Speckled Trout top prize tipping the scales at an even 9 pounds. The skilled angler was Ed McC'luskey from Nipigon, Ontario and was fishing the Nipigon River, north of Lake Superior. For the third straight year, the top "Muskie" was caught in Wabigon Lake. Donald Reed of Anoka, Minnesota weighed in his giant at 51 pounds 8 ounces, A beautiful specimen to represent the Maskinonge category. Just shy of the ail-time record, the first prize Chinook Salmon was landed by John DiGenova at the Nottawasaga River, while using roe for bait. John said his prize tasted good -all 43 pounds of it!
