Several Newcastle persons attended the 40th wedding anniversary party in honour of Lawrence and Gladys Greenwood. Greenwood. A social time was enjoyed by all. Oshawa Festival Singers, a choir of teen-age girls, under the direction of Elsie F. Drygala, A.R.C.T., R.M.T., presented A Village Christmas Christmas at Newcastle Community Hall on Sunday, December 5. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gray, whose daughter Shelley is a choir member, planned this fund-raising event, as the choir plans to tour Scotland, Wales and England this summer. The program was thoroughly enjoyed as the girls sang various types of /songs. Soloists were Heidi Wintermeyer, Carla Dyck, Shelly Kossatz, Allyson McHardy, Donna Sykes, Gwyneth Hughes, and Irene DeJong. Miss Nikki Vuorinen, ' flautist accompanied the choir and also presented a solo. The Orillia Scottish Country Dance ensemble added a lively touch to the program. Six door prizes were won by lucky attendants and Mrs. Dorothy Holmes of Leskard won a lovely doll. The Senior Citizens are grateful to the Pine Ridge Kinsmen who entertained them to this lovely program. Mrs. Lois Huber has returned returned home from Memorial Hospital, Bowmanville. In giving a highly informative informative slide presentation based upon preserving local history, Dorothy Duncan, Executive Director of the Ontario Historical Society, presented the group with many original and creative ideas for gathering gathering and sharing our own history of the area. Jack Gordon, Newcastle Village's noted historian, presented a unique display of local photographs and memorabilia. The entire program program was thoroughly enjoyable! enjoyable!
