If you are interested, phone Pat Fletcher 6-4879 or Kathleen Petrie 6-4771. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Kelly and family enjoyed Sunday evening dinner at Mr. and Mrs. Tony Mata and Tonya of Oshawa. Better health is wished to the many who are suffering from flue and other ailments. Some of the younger classes at C.C.F.S. have well over half of the pupils away. The Senior Citizen Card Party had 15 tables and the Mowing winners: 1. Richard Manns - 96; 2. Ella Venning - 78; 3. Edith Burgess - 78; 4. Weir Swain - 78; 5. Wilma Van Camp - 78; 6. A. Timms - 77; Karen Rogers - low. The draws were won by 1. Margaret Watson, 2. Lorna Swain, 3. Ann Taylor. The Senior Citizens enjoyed their annual Christmas dinner dinner on Monday Dec. 6th. Wilma Van Camp catered to about 25 Senior Citizens. Blackstock's Women Instate Instate held their Christmas Meeting in the Town Hall, on Dec. 1st, beginning at 12:30 p.m. The Institute Grace was sung after which a delicious Pot Luck dinner was enjoyed. Mrs. Sleep president, welcomed the 27 ladies present present and all repeated the Institute Institute Ode, and sang the Mary Stewart Collect. Santa Claus [Jean Adams) and Mrs. Claus (Lisa Kristensen) then distributed the exchang gifts, their reward being a friendly Kiss from each recipient. Mrs. S. Van Camp gave à reding about Christmas Customs in different countries countries which included the circumstances circumstances which resulted in the hymn "Silent Night." Mrs. H. Martyn read a moving moving Christmas Story entitled "Annie and Willie's Prayer." Mrs. Harold McLaughlin gave a helpful demonstration on Christmas Gift Wrapping. She had many samples including including a Christmas Card ornament, ornament, different containers wrapped in various ways, use of corsages for decorations, making of bows, newspaper wrappings, and cheese, and cookie box decorations. She told us that paper backed foil for large parcels could often be obtained at Lumber Companies Companies at a reasonable price. Mrs. McLaughlin was given a hearty ' clap for her demonstration. Mrs. Martyn then led in carol singing urging urging everyone to sing out lustily. Our president introduced four of our 4H leaders who were present, Mrs. Byers, Mrs. Moore, Mrs. Sleep and Mrs. McLaren and commended commended all 4H leaders for their work in this fine program. Mrs. Hoogeveen was thanked thanked for the good care she takes of the Cenotaph garden. Roll Call was answered by giving a donation to the Salvation Salvation Army. The Business Meeting consisted of the minutes and the treasurer's reports being read and approved. approved. Two thank you letters were received from Tara Bailey and Vincent Mackie for W.I. awards received Commencement. Mrs. Sleep thanked the W.I. on behalf of Mr. Sleep for the get well card he received. It was decided to send a donation to Operation Scugog. Mrs. Shortridge Park's Board Representative, gave a report on the Light at the Cenotaph. Mystery Sister name slips were drawn for 1963. The meeting closed with 0 Canada, and a Mery Christmas to all from our president. Cartwright High School Girls' basketball teams had a successful year. The junior girls ended the season with a 5 win, 4 loss record. They missed the quarter finals by one game. Congratulations to the junior team. The midgets fared much better. They had a 6 win 2 loss season. They played Courtice in the quarter finals and emerged with a 1 point victory. The girls then travelled to Dunbarton :o play Dunbarton in the semi-final game. The CHS girls had trouble adjusting to the gym and by the end of the first quarter trailed by 14 points. They battled back and by the middle of the fourth quarter Dunbarton's lead was but 4 points. At the final buzzer, the score was Dunbarton 53, Cartwright Cartwright 47. High scorers for CHS were Lorna Kellow 28; Lisa Kellow 12; Lisa Van Ryswyk 12, Congratulations on a fine season.
