I 6 The Canadian Statesman, Bowman ville, November 17,1962 Canadian Tire Minor Midgata Eem 4-1 Victory Against Markham Last Saturday at the Darlington Darlington Sports Centre the Canadian Tire Minor Midgets turned in an impressive allround allround performance to down visiting Markham 4-1. Thus, the team remains undefeated at home this season. The game featured some exciting, hard-hitting hockey, and was probably the best two-way performance turned in by many of the Toros this year. With one veteran already already injured and out of the line-up, spark-plug Scott McLeod was carried off on a stretcher mid-way through the third period. The rest of the team pulled together, and made up for the two missing players, by scoring two third period goals to seal the victory. Alan Ulrich turned in a solid performance in the Bowman- vUle net allowing just one Markham shooter to beat him. Brad Cruess, turning in a very solid performance, potted two goals for the home side. Other Marksmen were Pierre St. Amend and Scott McLeod. Chris Lee had two assists with singles to Scott Barclay, Scott McLeod, Brian Millson and Andrew Davey. The boys travel to Whitby November 17 for their next encounter, and are home to Kingston Township Saturday, November 20 at 3:00 p.m. at Darlington. By the end of the third period the Old Boys had added four more with singles from Burgess, from McMurter, McMurter from Goode, Goode from Baker and Smith from Baker. The Old Boys had one penalty served by Jim Connell. 'Corky' Burgess played all three games for the Old Boys and was the anchor the team needed in net, recording a shut-out and having only four goals scored. The Heritage House Old Boys will host the Forum Restaurant on Friday, Nov. 19. Keep up the good work team. Hay, and Mr. Marchand Eagles Win Two, Lose One Last Week The Cowan Pontiac Buick Eagles entertained the Port Perry Mojacks last Tuesday night in the Eagles nest. The Eagles were certainly in a generous mood giving up a goal with one second left on the game timer to provide the visitors with a 5 - 4 victory. The Mojacks scored the only goals of the first period to take a 2 - 0 lead. The Eagles came roaring back in the second period on goals/by Bob Dwyer from Randy MacDonald, then Bob Dwyer again from Rob DeBoo and Randy MacDonald. The Eagles then took a 3 to 2 lead on a goal by Randy MacDonald from Rob DeBoo and appeared to be in the process of assuming complete control of the game, but the Eagles seemed to lose some of their concentration and the , Mojacks seemed to pick up the pace with the Eagles taking some totally unnecessary penalties. The Mojacks scored two straight goals to go ahead 4 to 3 at the end of the second period. The Eagles pressed through most of the third period and were finally rewarded with less than four minutes remaining remaining when Glen German from Paul Reed and Andy Terry lifted the Eagles into a 4 to 4 tie. The Eagles had some excellent chances to win the game in the last three minutes but could not connect. With nine seconds showing on the clock and the face off deep in the Mojack end, two errors were made and suddenly with one second left on the clock the visitors had a 5 to 4 victory. The commént was made earlier that the Eagles were in a giving mood for this game but give credit to the visiting Mojacks. They played a tough hustling game, fore-checking the Eagles, especially in the Eagles own end of the arena and causing many errors to be made by the Eagles. If the Eagles learned something from this defeat it is not a complete loss. Eagles Win in Port Hope The Cowan Pontiac Eagles got back on the winning track in Port Hope Thursday night defeating the Panthers by a 7 to 2 score. The Eagles had a 5 to 2 lead at the end of one period on the strength of two goals by Brian Heard and singles! by Tim Preston, Randy MacDonald and Carl Chambers The second period was scoreless, but. tm Eagles upped the score to Æto 2 in the third period with goals from Chris Michelson land Carl Chambers, his sectjmd of the night. The Port Hope Panthers are not as good a team at this stage of the season as last year's edition. Eagles Avenge Earlier Loss to Uxbridge The Cowan Pontiac Eagles after losing 6 to 4 to Uxbridge Bruins two weeks ago hung a 13 to 1 shellacking on the same Uxbridge Bruins Sunday night past in the Eagles nest. The Eagles led by period scores of 4 to 1, 9 to 1 and finally 13 to 1 and outshot the Bruins by a count of 56 to 23 over three periods. Ràndy MacDonald led the onslaught with four goals and two assists. Ken Farrow had three goals, Chris Michelson had two goals and singles were scored by Carl Chambers, Rob DeBoo, Bob Dwyer and Glen German. The Bruins played a chippy game and of course the Eagles played right along resulting in the penalty boxes being full most of the night. The\ Bruins are struggling with'only three wins in fifteen games. The Eagles travel to Bewdley for a Wednesday night game this week. This will be a tough game as Bewdley is a much improved team this year and the Eagles have never played well in Bewdley's Arena. The Cobourg Cougars visit the Eagles nest this coming Sunday. Inconsistency Plagues Heritage House Bantams Inconsistent play has been the trademark of the Heritage House Bantam 2's early in this season. For the most part, they have been unable to put three good periods of hockey together. On Oct. 23 they travelled to Ajax and skated to a commanding 4 - 0 lead midway through the game. However, then the Toros stopped skating, allowing Ajax to come back to grab a 4 - 4 tie. The last two Ajax goals came in the final forty-three seconds. Mike Knight, Mike Houston, Barry Oliver, and Mark Smith scored for Bowmanville. Bowmanville. Ken Cameron was sharp in the Toro net, making several excellent saves. The following Saturday Heritage House hosted their arch rivals from Markham. Again Bowmanville jumped, into a 2 - 0 lead on goals by Ken Desmidt and Mike Gallant, but Markham roared back with five goals in the second period and cruised to an 8 - 5 win. Jeff Thompson, Ed Paradis, and Barry Newhook scored the other Toro goals, with Paul Hutchison adding two assists. Brian Treen was under constant pressure in the Toro net, but he too had an off night. The Heritage House crew got their first win of the season November 3rd in Pickering with a solid 6 - 0 win. Cameron got the shutout, facing just 13 shots as his defensemen cleared the puck well. Paradis led the attack with three Walter Frank Major Pee Wees Suffer Narrow Defeat Against Pickering Club Pickering hosted Walter Frank's Toros in a regular season game on Friday Nov. 12th. Neither team appeared lo be particularly sharp, as there was a great deal of scrambling in both ends. Walter Frank's boys got no substantial breaks, which resulted in the loss of many good scoring opportunities. A few more passing plays and maybe a few less individual efforts might have helped the cause, The Toros fought back in the 2nd period to erase a 2 - 0 lead in favour of Pickering. They were not able lo find the mark again however, Pickering scored twice more lo defeat Walter Frank's Toros 4 - 2. The Bowmanville goals were scored by Brad Carnegie unassisted, and by Rob Real from Aaron Ulrich and John Begg. Don't be discouraged boys, you must know in your own minds that you can beat Pickering - with more confidence and 100 percent team effort you shouldn't have much trouble. Walter Frank's Majors hosted Ajax on Sunday Nov. 14th for their 2nd meeting of the season. This contest certainly had no resemblance lo the exciting 9 - 7 game on King Garden Oldtimers Defeat Oshawa Hot Dogs Oct. 26th. Things started off in a positive manner with Toros scoring first on a goal by Brad Carnegie from Mark Tripp and Aaron Ulrich. The lights went out however about three minutes later when Ajax scored three times in 2V-; minutes. They struck quickly again in the 2nd period to take a 4 - 1 lead. The Toros managed to close the gap to 4 - 2 on a goal by Guy Freeman from Mark Tripp at 3:40 of the 2nd period. From there on it was all downhill as Ajax took complete control and scored four more unanswered goals to cinch their 8 - 2 victory. Walter Frank's Pee Wees will participate in a tournament tournament in Parry Sound Nov. 19-20-21- Good Luck - Let's have a real team effort. goals, with Gallant, B. Oliver and David Fairey, (a short- handed goal) scoring the others. In this game the Toros finally put three periods of good hockey together. However the following Saturday things weren't as bright for the Toros as they were blown out 9 - 2 by the Oshawa Canadians. Gallant and Fairey staked Bowmanville Bowmanville to a 2 - 0 1st period lead, but in the second the roof fell in as Oshawa scored five times. Cameron started in goal, allowing three scores, Trein let in the final six as again he had a poor outing. On Saturday November 13 Heritage played a rematch with Ajax and were beaten 5 - 3. However this game was different, as the Toros played well but were short three players and that eventually cost them the game. Ajax scored first, but Gallant tied it a 1 - 1 from Paradis and Knight on a Power Play. Ajax took the lead, but the Toros scored two goals in just over a minute to take a 3 - 2 lead after one period. Paul Stainton scored from Fairey and Scott Cole, then Newhook from Gallant. Ajax tied it in the second, then won the game in the 3rd by scoring two shorthanded goals. The lack of manpower killed Heritage House as they ran out of steam in the 3rd, Treen was brilliant in goal for the Toros, keeping them in the game as he faced 43 shots. Next action for Heritage House is Saturday at Darling- Ion when they host Whitby. Ity Bob Sheridan Is a hot dog superior to an egg roll! Not last Thursday night, as Grant Wright confounded the Hot Dogs with a mesmerizing performance in the Bowmanville goal, By the third period lie had taken the mustard rigid out of their attack, Bowmanville goals were scored by Hugh German from Sheridan, and Sheridan from German with Boh Dehlois and Gerry Henderson assisting on a Siegi Rohr goal. David Green scored the winner, assisted by Irv Gill. iVll TIRE ÜAM SERVICE % 299 DEAN AVE. Brisn Allin Leeds Spencers Te Big Win Ageinst Cowan's By Ted Brown With the season now half way over, in the Commercial Hockey League, a close battle is developing for second spot. Bolahoods now have a commanding lead atop the league but only two points now separate the remaining three teams. In the first game, good goal-tending by- both Britt Murphy for W. Franks and Gurr for Bolahoods kept the score low and close. The outcome of the game wasn't decided until there were only three minutes left. At that time, Phil Manganalli made a tremendous effort to set up linemate John Taylor with the insurance goal. Until that time, Franks had been threatening to tie the score. Scoring for Bolahoods were John Taylor, Bob Howes and Rick Woolner with assists going to Joe Humemick, Terry Baker and Phil Manganelli (two). Walter Frank's lone score was by Barry Fenton with assists going to Calvin Ellis and A1 Clark. The second game was a 5 - 3 . victory for Spencers over Cowans. This was the first time this season that •' Spencer's players have all ■ been healthy and able to play at the same time. Cowans did their best to tie with only two minutes left and Spencers serving a penalty. Pulling the goalie in this case however didn't work as Spencers scored an insurance goal. Scoring for Spencers were Brian Allin (three goals), Jim Hogarth (one goal), Don i Cowle (one goal) and assists going to Geordie Bowen, Mike Adams, Russ Maxwell(two), and Brian Anderson. Keep those boys flying Roily. Replying for Cowans were Sam Allin (one goal), Brian Dennis (one goal, one assist), , Mark Ellis (one goal), Wayne - Whiteman (one assist) and . Jim Brooks (one assist). The second period the Toros only added one goal to three from Ajax.
