I I TYRONE and DISTRICT Mrs. Ruby Spicer, Bowman- ville, was the guest speaker at Tyrone U.C.W. on Wednesday evening, November 10, 1982. Mrs. Spicer recounted the interesting history of Bow- manville's considerable partial partial supply of water which comes from Skinner's Springs, east of the village of Tyrone. "The water springs were brought into use between 1910 and 1912. A 150,000 gallon equalizer tank was built at the hill on the farm of Robert Coll- acutt at that time. The ditch from the spring to Bowman- ville was dug entirely by hand for a distance of approximately approximately eight miles." Mrs. Spicer, (nee Ruby Virtue), a resident of the area several years ago, was introduced by Bessie Vaneyk and was graciously thanked by Marion Hoar. At the beginning of the meeting quiet music played by Jean Slemon accompanied slide picture views of Margraten Military Cemetery and memorial, Holland, in commemoration commemoration of Remembrance Day. Report of the U.C.W. Presbyterial held recently in Hampton was given by Marion Hoar, principally of the very interesting talk on life and conditions in Korea given by Rev. Ross Davis. A parcel of useful items has been sent to the location served by Rev. Ralph Hills in Zambia. Plans for the Christmas meeting with the Enniskillen U.C.W. were discussed. A beautiful but cool day brought forth our worshippers to the Sunday service with the theme being PEACE presented by Miss Susan Pleasance with Nancy Pleasance, Dale Pasoce and Danny Rowan and Pastor Joe taking part. It was indeed nice to see both Senior and Junior choirs in the alcove. The choir sang "Where have all the flowers gone?" and then we had the Call to Worship followed by singing "O Canada". After the hymn we had the Prayer of Confession and the Responsive Reading. The choir sang "I Want To Teach The World To Sing". We then had the children's story and some of the Sunday School teachers and pupils retired to the lower level for their classes. The word of God was found in the Old Testament: Eccesiastes 3:18, the gospel in Mathew 5-1-12, the Epistle Ephesians 2: 11-22. We sang the hymn "Peace Perfect Peace" and then the group had their Playlets on Peace. "What Is Peace". After the commissioning the choir sang MONTGOMERY - Mervin Bruce. Thornhill came back before the end of the first period to tie the score at 1-1. In the second period David Tuepah put the Bowmanville lads ahead 2-1 with a blistering blistering slapshot from the point. The assists went to Rob Boyle and Kelly Balson. Thornhill once again tied it up before the end of the second period. Bowmanville took the lead for the final time on a goal by Murray Henderson assisted by David Tuepah . With only one minute remaining and the goaltender pulled, the Toros pressed to tie the game but fell short and lost 4-3. This was a very entertaining game for the fans and a very satisfying game for the people involved with the major bantam hockey club. Honourable mention should go to goaltender Phil Bird, who played superb between the pipes and Chris Urie and Rod Bate who also played very well. The boys should be proud of their effort as they gave 100 per cent and have proven to themselves if they stay out of the penalty box they are competitive. Good work boys.
