The next card party is Friday. Oct. 22nd. The former Pontypool parsonage parsonage has again changed hands with a "Sold" sign posted last weekend. Gerald and Jessie Fisk, Bruce and Ruth Fisk, Chris and Carol Armitage, Norm and Mamie and Karen Lyon enjoyed the annual Fisk Thanksgiving with relatives at Cardiff. Bernard Neals recently underwent further surgery, in Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto, and is recuperating quite favourably at home. A miscellaneous shower for Miss Wendy Johnston was held last Thursday evening in the Pontypool Community Centre. Hostesses for the event were Donna Porter and Joanne Finney. Wendy, daughter of Mrs. Sandra Johnston is to be married on Sat., Nov. 13th to Rodney Finney, son of Laverne and Marie Finney. Wedding to take place in Pontypool United Church. Wendy had previously been the guest of honour at a shower at the home of Adele Mulligan on Pinewoods Cresc. Mrs. Y von Noel has opened up a small restaurant in the front of the local garage. We wish her good fortune in her venture. There have been several bears sited in the area recently. Maureen Preston, a school-bus driver, stopped her bus on the 3rd line as she and her load of pupils watched a cub pass across the road from a field of Christmas trees into the property of Cliff Curtis. Full-grown bears have been seen in the Mosport, Lotus and Lifford areas. It seems that we no longer have to travel to Algonquin Park to view/the wild creatures of our forests. Jim and Joan Bedford visited with cousins in Wilmington, Wilmington, Delaware, over the Thanksgiving weekend. Cliff and Yvonne Fallis, Karen and Kim Neals, Rob Munroe, Alan Fallis and Donna O'Neill were present at the Oct. 9th wedding of Cynthia Rowan and David Fraser in Sharon United Church, Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia. Also attending were Alvin, Brenda, Leni, Larry and Darren Robertson of Omemee. The bride is the older daughter of Cameron and Joan Rowan, Tatamagouche. Tatamagouche. The newlyweds will be living in Bradford as the groom, a member of the R.C.M.P. is presently stationed in Newmarket. All enjoyed their Thanksgiving dinner at the home of Bill and Carol Rowan in Truro. "Nostalgia Night" Last Saturday evening, October 16th, Jeanne and Wes McMahon of Bethany were hosts for a social get together in Pontypool Community Centre. The 125 guests present were thrilled with the music of a few decades ago. The feature of the evening was "live" music provided by musicians - Dave Masters, drum, Robert Sisson, piano, Carlos Tamblyn, trumpet, Carman White, saxaphone, James Lowery, saxaphone. Also helping out were Gladys Brown, Les Fairhurst and Wes McMahon. A square dance was called by Mac Ransbury with James Lowery on violin. A spot dance was won by Mr. and Mrs. Ken Tyner of Peterborough and their prize was a record of Moxie Whitney's. Moxie, a well- known band leader now living in the Janetville area, was also present at the "Nostalgia Night". Lunch was served by the ladies of the Pontypool U.C.W. From all reports it was a superb evening. We are Project Grows to Giant Hallowe 9 en Pumpkin It might not match the legendary "Great Pumpkin" of the Charlie Brown comic strips. But four-year-old Michael Morris, of Bowmanville, has every reason to be proud of this giant vegetable. It tips the scales at 40 pounds and awaits suitable decoration and carving on Hallowe'en. Michael raised the pumpkin from a seed in his junior kindergarten class last spring. He brought it home in a styrofoam cup and planted it in the back yard. The possibility of a new hi#i school in the west section of the county is being considered by the Durham District School Board to relieve the congestion congestion at Bowmanville High School. "Sidelights, on the Imperial Conference," and Jasper Smith, first prize for the boy's with his address, "Amateur Radio". Bill Phillips was recently elected President of the West Durham Boys' Work Board. Rev. Walter Rackham was elected vice-pres., Ernest Twist, secretary, and Chas H. Mason, treasurer. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of silk jersey with Empire waist and long sleeves. The neckline and waist were trimmed with Venetian lace. The headdress of rhinestones and pearls, held a fingertip veil trimmed with miniature daisies. Phyliss carried a bouquet bouquet of white daisies, bridal yellow roses and baby's breath. The maid of honour was a sister of the bride, Mrs. Joanne Williams of Lindsay. The bridesmaids were Misses Gloria and Mary McCullough of Yelverton, sisters of the groom. They were dressed alike in yellow formal gowns of silk jersey with spaghetti straps and pleated jackets with stand-up collars. On Saturday, August 28th, 1982, at Queensway Cathedral in Toronto was the beautiful wedding of Yvonne Marlene Hoekstra and Jeff Sloos was solemnized. The parents of the bride are George and Rudy, and the groom's parents are William and Louise. The bride wore a white gown of organza over taffeta featuring a high ruffled neckline, sheer yoke, fitted bodice, long straight sleeves with ruffed cuff highlighted with Venice lace. A full circular skirt fell into ruffled chapel train complemented by roses of organza. Her matching headpiece held her trimmed fingertip French illusion veil. The groom and best man, Don Smith, wore sterling silver tuxedos; maid of honor, sister of the bride, Jacqueline, wore a dusty rose gown with a round neckline and elbow length ruffled sleeves.
