On Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Powell visited Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Markle, Alyssa and Andrew, Scarborough. Mrs. Margaret Pearce and grandson Robert Rowe, enjoyed the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Ron Pearce, Jennifer and Melanie, Lindsay. Mrs. Louise Jose and Mr. Murray Martin are patients in Oshawa General Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Wes Payne, Huntsville, were Thanksgiving Thanksgiving Monday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. George Buckley. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Hunt and Russell, Pontypool, were Sunday luncheon guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Powell. Mrs. Amy Tobin, Thousand Oaks, California, has returned home after visiting her mother and area relatives. Amy spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs. John Scott and attended their daughter Cindy's wedding on Oct. 2. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Morrow (nee Cindy Scott) have returned from their Florida honeymoon. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Thomas and Mrs. Nell Lake, Toronto, were Tuesday visitors with Fred's sister, Mrs. Nellie Spencer. Mrs. Viola Westfall and daughter Betty, Trenton, were recent visitors with her cousin, Mrs. Marjorie Hagerman. On Saturday evening Mr. Donald Parker, while playing cribbage with his son-in-law, Mr. Donald Wright, had a 29 hand, a first for Donald Parker. Congratulations! Miss Lorie Rowe, who is wearing a cast on one leg, spent a few days last week with her grandmother, Mrs. Margaret Pearce. We do hope that Lorie will be back figure-skating this winter. Anglican News Mr. and Mrs. Fred Yates, Mrs. Tony Wood, Rev. and Mrs. Haldenby attended the workshops of Rev. Canon David Watson held in St. Luke's Church, Peterborough, October 12 and 13. Canon Watson and his nine assistants from England put on workshops workshops about religious drama, dancing, singing and evangelism. Mrs. Grace Haldenby attended the monthly board meeting of the Anglican Church Women of the Diocese of Toronto in Toronto on Wednesday, October 13. Rev. Haldenby attended the Diocesan Chaplaincy Meeting in Toronto. St. Luke's Day was celebrated celebrated on Sunday in St. George's, by remembering the healing work of Jesus and the Church throughout the ages. St. George's A.C.W. Bazaar' will be November 6 and the ladies are busy preparing. United Church News On Sunday, Oct. 17, the flowers gracing the sanctuary were in memory of Mrs. Agnes Burley. Mario Veltri expanded his developer interests last week when he opened the Capri Restaurant in the Veltri Complex at 68 King Street East in Bowmanville's downtown core. Elected officials, family, friends and restaurant staff turned out Thursday for the ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the opening of the impressive dining spot. Mr. Veltrrs decision to open the Capri in his own commercial-apartment complex came following the closing earlier this year of Flanagan's restaurant which formerly occupied the premises. There was the usual October sale of produce which netted about $l5. The speaker for the afternoon was Mrs. Gryse, of Scarborough, Dominion store economist, who described ways for special entertaining. This past week has seen the passing of another old friend and former neighbour, Mrs. Agnes Burley of Newtonville. Mrs. Burley had been in .hospital for some weeks and for many years had suffered from arthritis. Her mind was always active and among her many accomplishments was the writing of a story of the families of much of Clarke township and a book of poems dedicated to her grandchildren. grandchildren. She leaves a legacy of great worth to her family and many, many friends. Mr. Truman Austin entertained entertained his family at dinner at his home on Sunday, October the tenth. His son Paul has accepted another position' requiring some travelling from his home to North Bay.
