Slute, son of Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Slute. Liberty St. N., has completed third year studies in "Accounting "Accounting and Finance" at Seneca College, Toronto. He has accepted a position in the accounting department at American Express, Toronto, and is continuing studies in the R.I.A. program. WESLEYVILLE The Toronto Ex nearly over, crickets chirping at the door, and the bit of nip in the air tell us the days of summer 1982 are drawing to a close. To add to those signs, Hope township's township's United Church outdoor service ended on Aug. 29th with the one at the home of Mr. and Mrs, Matthew Currel- ley. It was very chilly in early morning, but the sheltered spot where the congregation sat in large semi-circles about the choir and pulpit, proved to be quite comfortable with the help of brilliant sunshine. The service was conducted by Rev. Gordon Rutherford with guest speaker, Rev. E. Schamerhorn of Bowmanville United Church. It was good to have Mr. and Mrs. Tom Wilson Wilson back from the slimmer at Georgian Bay with Christine's mother Mrs. Forgan who was leaving the first of the week for her home in Scotland. Back too, from a trip to the Canadian west are Mr. and Mrs. John Groenveld arriving the first of last week, and Mrs. J. Groeneveld Sr. arrived back from a visit to Holland on August 29. It was a very successful summer, for on only one Sunday Sunday it was necessary to go to a church and even then it would have been possible to carry on, as threatened rain cleared up. Speakers at these services required all their oral powers to compete with the visual sermons round about them. You cannot sit in a quiet atmosphere near or under a venerable huge maple tree without pondering on its age or who planted it, or watch a flock of birds going through precision flying in acrobatics without pondering the mystery of the signal which allows hundreds of bird to swirl, dip and dive as one. Next Sunday services will be held at their regular hours at Garden Hill, Canton and Welcome. Welcome. The rain of early Saturday afternoon cleared away. to make a fine afternoon for the McCoil-Winn wedding. Best wishes of all go to Bevand Will for continued sunshine in their lives. Mr. and Mrs. H. Best and Mr. and Mrs. Brian Caswell spent a few days of last week enjoying the scenery of the near north. Mrs. Emma Darke was in Bowmanville last week to attend attend a shower for her grand niece, a granddaughter of Mrs. Alice Brock. Wesleyville cemetery board held a short on the spot meeting meeting on Saturday evening to make plans for a general bee to be held in a few weeks to clean up the debris left when Hydro cut a row of trees. They made temporary repairs to a damaged fence and discussed ways of dealing with a broken stone. Present were Arnold Thorndyke, chairman of the board, Mrs. Orald Ford, Sec. treas. and George Tufford, Clarence Nichols, Len Ough- tred and Mrs. E. Barrow- clough. Also with Mrs. Ford was her granddaughter, Brenda Henderson of Oshawa, who is on holidays in Port Hope. Sympathy is extended to the family of a neighbor at Mor- rish, on the death of Mrs. Allen Peters after a short illness. Mrs. Roy Austin, Kevin and Charlene were in Belleville on Saturday to attend an equestrian equestrian meet. Charlene was riding riding and won her division. She was in Dl Catergory and was presented with a beautiful first prize ribbon. Congratulations Congratulations to you, Charlene. On Monday afternoon, Aug. 22, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Brand of Grimsby were calling calling in the community to seek information re members of the Brand Family, Daniel came to Hope township very early in its history and the homestead was sold from the family name in very recent years. Jonathan, evidently a brother, was one of the remaining remaining trustees from the first Wesley Church when the present building was erected in 1860, He lived on lot 34, concession 1, but. Clarence isn't sure whicli is his ancesr tor, Mrs, A. Thorndyke and Mrs, Sharon Edey of Bowmanville spent this weekend in Halifax visiting grandson, Paul Hos- kin.
