Wednesday Aug. 5th John McCaughev, eldest son of Major John McCaughey, Cobourg, died in Hamilton after a very i short illness, from heart trouble. Interred at Cobourg. Mr Alpha Pinch has purchased from S. Dudley the 50 acre farm in Clarke, for many years owned by the late Richard Foster. Mr. Pinch takes possession November 1st. Mr. John Nott, Port Perry's oldest citizen citizen was in town on Saturday and gave theGazette-Chronicle office a friendly call. I Mr. Nott was 89 years of age on Dominion Day.--Gazette. / Frank J. Knight, living about four miles from Belleville, is a large apple grower, having 1,400 apple trees in his orchard, largely Starks. This year's apple crop is turning out well. Mr. J. A. Hamilton, B.A., Dundas, late principal of Beamsville, and Hagersville, Ontario, has been engaged as principal of Port Perry High School to succeed Mr. T. H. Follick, M. A. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Trebilcock have returned returned from a trip to Vancouver, Mr. Trebilcock combined business with pleasure pleasure and had a successful trip. They were in Cobourg yesterday and witnessed the 1 embarking of the artillery at that place. Some very sad scenes took place. Peter- boro Examiner Conductor Anderson on C. N .R. train No 10 Friday night, between Trenton and Belleville was held up by an armed robber in an empty passenger coach. He grappled with him and after a desperate struggle secured the revolver and held The man down with his foot while he signalled the engineer to stop the train. The robber made another effort to get free and threw himself out of the window and escaped. Con. Anderson's conduct has won him much praise. The "garden fete" at the home of Mrs. W. H. OBITUARY Asa A. Brown, Toronto. Veterinary Surgeon Asa A. Brown, Toronto, Toronto, died at home, 229 Wright ave., Aug 2, following a year's illness with heart drouble. Deceased was born at Pickering, 62 years ago, going to Toronto when about 30 years of age, to take up veterinary veterinary surgeon's study. Soon afterwards he began to practice and continued-until two years ago, when he retired. A wife and •two daughters survive. Dr. Brown was a brother-in-law of Mrs. Amassa Fuller and Mr. Geo.
