Bowman ville sprung a big surprise Whitby team here Wednesday night by holding the latter team to a 4--I victory. Considering previous performances 01 both teams it was expected the local boys, would be- outclassed, but instead they gave their opponents a close argument all the time. It was 15 minutes, before Whitby secured their first goal, and a minute later thev doubled it. Whitby notched 2 more goals in the second half while Higginbotham Higginbotham scored the only goal-for ithe local tads three : minutés. before time.. Bowmanville showed.better condition in the final period but altho' they made many good rushes Whitby's heavy défense prevented any scoring. It was the roughest game played on local ice for several seasons there being being 16 penalties, the visitors being in the majority. Referee Leo Quinn, Oshawa, allowed, the playprs to rough it too much and missed several offsides but showed no partiality in his decisions.
