Each bracelet takes several hours to make. He is expected to be selling them at Sunday's Oakville Terry Fox Run in Coronation Park. | Riziero Vertolli/Metroland Canadian hero Terry Fox continues to be a symbol of courage, hope and inspiration. In spite of his challenges in battling cancer, he embarked on his Marathon of Hope in Newfoundland on April 12, 1980. It heralded a new age of fundraising with his erce determination, running an average of 42 kilometres everyday for 143 days. As he made his way across Canada, he talked about his experiences with cancer; he gave hope to those suffering from the disease. Although he never attained his goal of making it to British Columbia -- bone cancer had spread to his lungs by Sept. 1, 1980 -- he created a legacy that continues today. That journey, Fox's story and his battle with osteogenic sarcoma cancer is remembered and honoured through the annual Terry Fox Run. see Terry on p.5 The school bus driver shortage making headlines in Toronto is not con ned to that city -- it is affecting some GTA school boards, including Halton's two main boards. Halton Student Transportation Services (HSTS) says a shortage of school bus drivers is affecting school bus operations on Oakville and Burlington routes. About 30 routes -- representing a shortfall of 30 drivers -- in urban Oakville and Burlington are impacted. "Our shortage is not to the extent that Toronto is experiencing. We have spare drivers that are covering the majority of the (30) routes," said Karen Lacroix, general manager of Halton Student Transportation Services. Delays are 10-20 minutes for some routes and upwards of 30-40 minutes for others. HSTS is a consortium providing home to school transportation to students of the Halton public and Catholic school boards.
