Oakville Fire was called to the scene around 6 p.m. Originally, the re department identi ed the nearby restaurant, Maria Bonita, as the location of the blaze, then reported by the Oakville Beaver in its Thursday, Sept. 8 edition. However, though smoke was present at the restaurant, which closed during the emergency, the blaze was in fact at the ice cream shop and the re department corrected the information given to the public. "When our crews showed up they found light smoke on the second oor," said Deputy Fire Chief George Birtig. Fire crews were told a small re had started in the building's furnace room, but was extinguished by an employee using a bucket of water. Fire ghters worked to clear the remaining smoke out of the building. Birtig said the cause of the re appears to have been electrical. DEALS YOU LOVE FOR LESS Charges in pizza shop robbery case A 29-year-old Oakville man is facing charges in connection with the armed robbery of an Oakville pizza shop back in April. On April 10, at around 9 p.m., a man entered the Domino's Pizza at 2298 Lakeshore Rd. W., pulled out a knife and demanded money from the employee, according to Halton police. The suspect was given a quantity of cash and ed the area. The employee was not injured during the incident. A police investigation led to an arrest on Thursday, Sept. 8. Michael Miller, 29, of Oakville has been charged with robbery, wearing a disguise during the commission of a criminal offence, breach of probation and failing to comply with recognizance.
