However, there are common misconceptions that the profession requires no formal education and that there are no professional standards. In reality authorities say, RECEs are skilled professionals who are trained and qualified to take care of children in numerous different educational and social settings. They adhere to professional standards and are held accountable for their actions by the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE), Ontario's self-regulatory body for all RECEs. Here are some more facts you might want to know: · RECEs are more than `babysitters': While babysitters do interact with and have an impact on young children, it is sometimes considered a part-time job and does not require any qualifications. A registered early childhood educator, on the other hand, is skilled, knowledgeable and accountable. They work to assess children's developmental needs in a variety of developmental domains and design a curriculum that can be tailored to a child's individual needs. · RECEs are trained and educated in their Fall Registration field: They are required to complete postsecondary training programs and adhere to ethical and professional standards. The College of ECE ensures that RECEs meet minimum training and education requirements. The college also recently established a Continuous Professional Learning (CPL) program to support ongoing education. · There are professional consequences for RECEs. The college regulates and governs these educators in the public interest, setting standards for the profession and helping to ensure only qualified professionals are employed in the sector. RECEs who fail to maintain the standards of the profession are held accountable for their actions through a Complaints and Discipline process. The college also maintains a searchable, online public register of all its members which parents and employers can use as a reference. As a result of this oversight, parents can rest assured that their child is receiving the care of a specialist who meets professional standards and prioritizes their child's well-being.
