"There's someone sick out there," says one Councillor after receiving bullet in unmarked envelope Monday
By Mandy Eason
OHSWEKEN - Four members of Six Nations Band Council received a single .303 calibre bullet in an unmarked envelope, hand delivered to each of their home mailboxes sometime Sunday night.
Chief Wellington Staats, Councillors Dave Hill, Dave (Pee Wee) Green and Terry General each contacted Six Nations Police department Monday to report the situation.
According to the police report all four members of council received a white envelope with their names affixed by glue with letters taken from newsprint. Each envelope contained one .303 bullet, still in the casing.
There was no explanations or notes inside.
"I don't scare easily but it scared me," said Councillor Green when contacted Tuesday. He went on to say, "It's not the first time someone has threatened me but it's never been this drastic. There's somebody sick out there."
Councillor Terry General shares Green's concern. "It's kind of devastating. I'm quite concerned with this, but I'm not going to hide under any rocks."
General said he is not scared personally, but his family is frightened. The envelope was opened by his daughter.
"My daughter said 'Dad there's a letter here with your name on it.' I told her to open it and she shouted 'Dad there's a bullet inside!'"
Asked if he had any idea who or what might be the reason for such action, General said he had no idea.
"If someone has a problem with me, address it to me: face to face."
Councillor Dave Hill was not so threatened by the package. He said he was contacted by telephone from another councillor who said to check his mailbox. It was then Hill found the bullet. When asked for his reaction, Hill said he "thought it was a joke. I don't know what to think about it."
Chief Wellington Staats was unavailable for comment.
The police authorities are taking this matter quite seriously. The envelopes and bullets have already been sent to the Technical Identification Unit in London. "We expect to hear something by next week," said Constable Charlie Miller.
