The Rock, currently in fourth place in the six-team Major Series Lacrosse standings with a mark of 7-4, will face a Six Nations team (8-3) battling with Peterborough for first place in league standings. Game time is 8 p.m. The Rock also has a home game scheduled for Monday, July 11 at 8 p.m. at TRAC when Cobourg provides the opposition. Oakville is coming off an 18-8 win over the Kodiaks in Cobourg last Sunday, where the game was scoreless for the first 26 seconds and the Rock trailed for the next 25 seconds. After that it was all Rock, which led 4-1 before the five-minute mark. Oakville was up 7-5 and 15-7 at the two intermissions. Oakville had four players with seven or more points, including a nine-point night from Brenden Thenhaus which included a hat trick. Dan Lomas had four goals and four assists and Joe French scored once set up seven other goals. Stephan Leblanc contributed three goals and four assists. The remaining Rock markers came from Bryan Cole, with three, Challen Rogers with two and Mitch Desnoo and Chris Buswell. Nick Rose played three quarters of the game in the Rock net and earned with win. Doug Buchan also saw some action in goal. Cobourg's record dropped to 1-10-1 for three points, one ahead of the cellar-dwelling Brampton Excelsiors. Blue Devils' strong second half leads to League1 win over Windsor The Oakville Blue Devils rebounded from a poor first half against the Windsor Stars, scoring three straight goals in a 4-2 win last weekend at Sheridan College Stadium. It was the Blue Devils' fourth win in 10 League1 Ontario soccer games this season, placing them in fifth place in the Men's West Division standings. Oakville is at home Sunday, July 10 at 3 p.m. against Vaughan Azzurri. After Felipe Vilela tied the score against Windsor at 1-1 early in the second half, Windsor replied one minute later. Oakville's Khody Ellis scored twice, with teammate Anthony Doran adding one, to account for the last three Blue Devils goals. It was another subpar first half for Oakville. "We were concerned with committing too many players at once, and when we gave the ball away our shape was very poor," said Blue Devils head coach Duncan Wilde. Seven members of Horizon Taekwon-Do are preparing to compete at the ITF , or International Taekwondo Federation, world championships in Brighton, England July 26-31. The seven Horizon competitors -- four girls and three boys -- are all black belts who won a discipline (patterns, sparring and destruction) in their age group at national championships in Mississauga last February. Horizon's owner and sixth-degree black belt Louie Sanchez is coaching the girls. They include Erica Piccolo, 16, Victoria Recagno, 15, Katelyn Recagno, 14 and Blair Young, 13. Since team competitors must be 14 at worlds, Young will compete as an individual in the three disciplines in Brighton. The three boys competing from Horizon include Chris Lohr, 17, Ryan Trotman, 16 and Dylan Reid, 16. Reid is competing in sparring only. Patterns, moves that demonstrate power, balance and rhythm, is the first discipline to be marked, followed by sparring against competitors in the same age and weight categories, and, finally, destruction (breaking a number of boards). This is the highest number of athletes Sanchez has taken to worlds. Not only do the athletes have to qualify by finishing top three in Canada, competitors and/or their clubs must find a way to finance the often expensive trip necessary to compete. When the worlds were in Ottawa in 2012, costs were lower, but in 2014 in Italy and in 2018 in Argentina, expenses become a problem. "This year we had movie nights, club mini-tournaments, barbecues, auctions, bottle drives and electronic equipment recycling drives to help offset the cost," said Sanchez, who has run the club for the past 15 years, the last five at its present location on Wycroft Road. Sanchez has great hope for all of his charges at worlds, and Horizon seven set for taekwondo worlds thinks they'll outdo the silver- and bronze-medal performances of two of his students at the 2014 worlds in Italy. "I'm telling you, when we come back, you'll be surprised how many medals we have," he said, although admitting th worlds can be quite a frustrating experience. "In sparring, if you lose -- Kevin Nagel your first match, it's goodbye England."
