Let’s not mess w'rth good thing â€" Victoria Park Dear Editor: Regarding the article of May 14 on the plan to refurbish Victoria Park, l absolutely agree with one resident's sentiment: do not mess this up. In my view, and apparently shared with many, it's one of Milton's jewels that gives our old downtown it's distinct charm. Being a long-time resident, l have countless fond memories of time spent there with my family simply enjoying the green space, large trees and it's proximity to Milton's timeless ar- chitecture. My children, now young adults, practically grew up on the playground there. Before settling in Milton l grew up in a city, Hamilton, which also has been blessed with an iconic park at the centre of its historical down- town. Gore Park is a centrepiece of the com- munity and an important part of Hamilton's heritage. However, l believe that through the shortsight- edness of its leaders, the ‘Gore’ has over time been subjected to several costly makeovers, some of which have been abject failures. Even today they're still ‘tinkering’ with it. Let this be a warning to our community's lead- ers. The founders of this town have given us a gift. While maintaining Victoria Park to keep it a safe and welcoming spot for countless future generations is undeniably important, let's also not mess with a good thing. Do it right or not at all.
