Oakville Family Ribfest promises food and fun continued from p.1 a community marketplace, many other food vendors, plus beer and imported wine for the adults," described event chair Trish Peden at the official launch Thursday (May 26) at The Co-operators on Rebecca Street in Oakville. "The event is totally `green' with zero waste being sent to landfill." New to the fun is a misting station in anticipation of the warm weather and a charging station that will allow attendees to keep their mobile devices fully-charged so they can vote electronically for their favourite ribber, Peden, a 27-year Rotary Club member, continued. "Oakville's only ribfest is a great way to enjoy the start of summer while you help Rotary help others," she said. Funds raised support the Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar's work to help those in need, both locally and internationally. Despite two days of rain, last year's ribfest attracted 17,000 attendees and raised about $40,000, which enabled the service group to hand out educational scholarships and grants to that support local groups in the community, Peden shared. purchase healthy, fresh foods such as fruit, vegetables, milk, yogurt, cheese and other items that cereal, canned soup, canned meats, grains. "We are thrilled to have Rotary support as it truly does take a village (to raise a child)," she said. Peden hopes this year's ribfest will attract 50,000 and raise $100,000 to support the community. In past years, when it hasn't rained, she noted the club reached those targets and she's confident with good weather, residents will come out to have family fun while supporting a great cause. The event is free, however parking at Sheridan College will cost $10. Those who park their cars on campus will receive a coupon booklet worth $1,000. Free parking is available at Town Hall at 1225 Trafalgar Rd. where a shuttle will pick up attendees and drop them off at ribfest. Pets aren't allowed at the event, however Barks n' Rec will provide dog daycare service near the main gate to take care of dogs while owners can go in and enjoy the event.
