Six Nations Sports Resume of Lacrosse events On Wednesday evening Aug. 7th the great Warrior Lacrosse Team reached the Eastern Box-La finals when they defeated the Orangeville Dufferins by the devastating score of 21-9, a score which proved their competence as the top team. The game was rough and two of the Warriors were knocked out when hit by the ball and required medical attention on the floor. James Squires and Ron Thomas were able to continue in the game later on. The Warriors next met Owen Sound North Stars in Owen Sound on Aug. 13th in the first game in a best of seven series to determine the Eastern Division Championship. The North Stars were trounced in this game by a score of 16-10. The Warriors stars in this game were the Thomas brothers. Goalie Ron made some sensational saves. In the second game of the series at Brantford Civic Centre on hot Aug. 16th, the Warriors plundered the North Stars 21-7, a crowd of 2,000 sweltering fans saw this game. Jim Squires led the Warriors with a score of 5 goals and 3 assists. In the fourth game on Aug. 19th. at Owen Sound, the Warriors scalped them by a score of 15-10, which marked "finis" for the North Stars. The Warriors next met the Wallaceburg Red Devils in a best of seven series to determine the Eastern Championship. In the first game played at Wallaceburg, the Warriors thumped them 16-5. The return game played at Brantford Civic Centre saw the Red Devils crushed by a score of 24-10. All that was necessary for the Warriors was to put Sault on their tails. Claude Sault scored 7 goals and assisted on two others. Others played equally as well. On Aug. 24 in a third game at Wallaceburg the Warriors scalped the Red Devils by a lopsided score of 22-11. This gave Warriors a 3-0 lead in the Ontario finals. In the fourth and last game, the Warriors completely overwhelmed the R.D.'s in a 26-8 jubilant victory. The Warriors Lacrosse artists won the Ontario and Eastern Lacrosse Championship in their 12th straight play-off win. Well done Warriors! Heap big congratulations! We're mighty proud of the Brantford Warrior team. The Warriors are now qualified to compete with the Western champs, Nanaimo Luckies for the Dominion of Canada Championship. The Warriors have the players with the talent to win this championship again. With the finals now in progress at Civic Centre, the present standing for the Warriors is 2-0 in the best of seven series. Saturday's game Aug. 31st. Nanaimo 6 Warriors 13 Sept. 1st. Nanaimo 8 Warriors 15 Next game scheduled for Tuesday evening, Sept. 3rd. Will Jim Squires go to Toronto? Squires was involved last week in a multi-player trade between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Olympics of the National Pro Lacrosse League. He will finish the season with Brantford Warriors and will later consider the Toronto offer. Lacrosse Awards Following the Lacrosse game at Civic Centre on Sept. 1st. the following players received trophies: Seymour Johnson - rookie of the year Claude Sault - most popular player Jim Squires - most gentlemanly player (The Earl Hill memorial trophy)
