The event, which will be held at the Halton Regional Police Service Headquarters at 1151 Bronte Rd., will run from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Opening ceremonies will begin at 11 a.m. The theme of this year's event is Discover Policing for Safer Communities. The celebration of policing in Halton Region will give visitors the opportunity to experience: Halton Regional Police Chief Stephen Tanner welcomes residents to Police Day activities in a previous year. | Oakville Beaver file photo Tactical Rescue Unit (TRU) demonstrations; Children's Safety Village tours; Halton Police Pipes & Drums and Halton Police Chorus; interactive displays; K-9 units; children's rides; live music; snacks and a barbecue. Indoors, guests will get the chance to visit information booths to learn more about emergency services, crime prevention and volunteering/recruiting opportunities. Officers speak a number of languages at the event including French, Dutch, Urdu, Punjabi, Indian and Mandarin. ASL interpreters will be on site at the event. Free parking is available at the north and south sides of the headquarters, off North Service Road. Tours of the Children's Safety Village are limited and parents are asked to register early in the day to secure a time slot. Follow the action on Twitter throughout the day with @HaltonPolice and #PolDay. GO Transit, in co-operation with the Halton Regional Police Service, will provide complimentary transportation from the Milton and Georgetown divisions on a first-come, first-serve basis by reservation only.
