Despite the overcast sky, the Annual Parade drew crowds of anxious youngsters and adults alike to view the great site. The March 3lst event lined up at Beverley Elementary School in preparation for the traditional Z:00p.m. trek down through the village. The 39 entry parade was escorted by a service van from the Bastard and South Burgess #1 Fire Station. Then, leading the procession, was the majestic Legion Colour Party from Fort Wellington Branch #97 - Prescott, followed by the pomp and pageantry of the Queen's University Pipe Band and Cheerleaders. Riding in Delta's 1937 Ford LaFrance Fire truck was the 1990 Official Parade Marshall, Bruce Wylie of Brockville. Bruce is the program director of CFJR 830 AM radio, and the chairperson of the Riverfest Committee. TRASH CHASE- BASTARD AND SOUTH BURGESS TOWNSHIP Fortyâ€"two students together with some teachers from Rideau Centennial Public School, and volunteers from the Environmental Conservation Committee pitched in to clean trash from the ditches of Bastard and South Burgess Township roads last April 26th. The day was a big success and gave students a "handsâ€"on" opportunity to see what carelessness does to the environment. The lesson was well received. The students were courteous and hard- working even though it was hot and dry. More than 50 bags of trash - mainly bottles and cans, were collected from the roadsides within Zhours. "A little thoughtfulness makes a litter-better world." REC YC LE DELTA ATHLETIC AND RECREATIONAL SOCIETY You did it once again. With your help, our organization had a very successful weekend during the Delta Maple Syrup Festival. We received more baked goods than we ever imagined from the people of the Village. We sold 150 lbs of Forfar Curd and could have sold more. We sold lots of Cotton Candy, balloons, hot dogs, hamburgs and chili, thus keeping the volunteers very busy on both days. Thanks go out to Keith and his helpers for tapping the trees and collecting the sap that they boiled into syrup, especially for the Festival. We believe this went over very well with all who passed by and watched. Also, a very special thanks is sent to Struthers of Toledo for their donation of a Lazy-Boy chair. The winner of this was Sara Gard of Elgin. We also held a very successful dance on March 17 at the Legion and everyone who attended had a great time. The Executive feels it is time we had a Logo to go with our name. To do this we are going to sponsor a Logo Contest which will be open to everyone, except the Executive. There will be a $50.00 cash prize awarded to the winner. Please see further on for more information on how to enter. President Irma Chant welcomed all and opened with prayer and the repeating of our Purpose.’ The roll call reported 6 hospital and 7 home visits being made. The reading of scriptures from Exodus and Proverbs served as an opening for the devotional. A meaningful story, entitled " Mothering is a Full Time Job," was read, after which the offering was received and dedicated. Minutes of the last two meetings were read, together with Irene Goodsell's Treasurer's report. Irma gave a brief report on the Planning Meeting for the Fall Rally, which is to be held in Lyndhurst. Hilda Cardiff spoke to us about a "Doctor with a Difference." Dr. Peter Newbery, a family practice physician, ordained minister and Director of Health Services for the United Church of Canada, is still smiling! His main objective was to see that isolated communities receive good medical and spiritual services. There are both joys and frustrations associated with such activities, but he remained faithful in both. Irma led in the Mizpah Benediction. A tasty lunch served by Aileen Jacques and Leora Raison was enjoyed by all. Our next meeting will be held at the home of Kathryn Powell. Hope to see you there! Vivian Morris
