16 NORTH LEEDS LANTERN JUNE 1990 “not; may i in,‘ - _ fwuu by Janice McDonald Things have been Inoving quickly for Rideau this past month. The Senior Boys Soccer team is back into the swing of things. The Senior and Junior Girls Soccer teams have been working their way to victory over and over again. Rideau's Students' Council is much of the reason that our school has so much spirit and, during the middle of May, elections were held to replace the present Students' Council with a new one for next year. Spring Fiesta was held the week after the Victoria Day holiday. This week helps to show just how much spirit Rideau has. Lastly, the students who visited the Soviet Union gave some presentations on their trip. The Senior Boys Soccer Team has been preparing for their O.F.S.S.A.A. games since the beginning of spring. On May 16th, the team had an exhibition soccer game against LaSalle to prepare for their championship games. Rideau won the game with Christian Skoryna getting two goals and Derek Campbell scoring one, making the final 3-0. Elgin's high school will be playing in the championship tournament in Mississauga from May 3lst until June 2nd. May 17th was the day of the L.G.S.S.A.A. finals for the Senior and Junior Girls Soccer teams. They both played South Grenville. South Grenville was the first team to win against Rideau's undefeated Junior Girls, winning 2-0. It was after the Juniors lost that the Senior Girls took to the field. The sun might have been shining, but the fields were still wet and slippery, which made it even tougher for the Seniors to win. They did win the game with a final score of 1â€"0. The undefeated senior team played in Glengarry, May 24th, for the E.O.S.S.A.A. title. Presently at Rideau, we've got a terrific Students' Council. Out of my three years here at Rideau, I must say that this year has been the best because of all the great events they have organized. Our present Council consists of Jim Redmond as President, Scott Rice as Vice President, as Boys' Athletic Rep, Angel Croskery for Publicity Director, and finally, Barry Seward as Social Convenor. I know everyone at Rideau will miss the old Council, but hopefully, the new one will be just as exciting. It was time for a spirit builder at Rideau during the fourth week of May. Spring Fiesta started on Tuesday, May 22 and continued until May 25. Tuesday was the day for everyone to dress up like a Nerd. Wednesday was Jammie Day, Thursday was Old Folks Day, and Friday was the Opposite Sex Day. It was quite an interesting week, as I'm sure you can imagine. Finally, the students who went to the Soviet Union got to do a presentation on the events of their trip to the Board of Education on May 14th. Shortly after the students returned and all of their pictures had been developed, the students and Mr. Purdy, a History teacher at Rideau, gave two presentations in the school library about this trip. All in all, Rideau has had an extremely busy month. Natelie Michaud as Secretary, Lynn Young as Treasurer, Dennis Serson as the Boys' Athletic Representative, Lisa MacDougall as Girls' Athletic Representative, Tanya Lemcke as Publicity, and Jennie Bresee as Social Convenor. It was during the second and third weeks of May that the council was replaced by the students who will be taking over next year. The winners of this year's election were Steve Graham for President, Ben Whitney for Vice President, Tiffany Bell as Secretary, Kai-en Pollard as Treasurer, Mary Ellen Pattinson for Girls' Athletic Rep, Derek Campbell In the beginning was a garden . . .
