TYERS, Robert James "Jim" - Jim Tyers, 71, passed away on March 13 at his home in Woodstock, Ontario. Jim is survived by his loving wife Julie of 45 years. Loving father of Brent Tyers (Elizabeth), Jeff Tyers (Cathleen) and Bryan Tyers (Danielle). Loving grandfather of Emma and Avery; Daniel, Benjamin, Madeline and Cody; Joshua and Kieran. He will be sadly missed by his sister Jane Tyers. Jim is predeceased by his parents Charles and Frances (née Wims) Tyers. After graduation Jim moved from his hometown of London, ON to Sudbury in 1969, where he went on to work diligently for INCO for the better part of 39 years. First starting at Clarabelle Mill, Jim found his true calling in the Engineering Office, where he spent most of his career in Contracts Administration until his retirement in 2000. Dedicated to INCO, Jim returned to Sheridan Park to oversee capital projects until 2008. In 2003 Jim and Julie moved to Woodstock to be closer to family and their beloved grandchildren. Jim was passionate about making Ontario's workplace a safer place and was an early advocate of the Ontario Construction Users' Council, as well as a familiar voice on the CSAO Regional Safety Committee. Jim showed an equal passion for making his community a better place, volunteering his time at Sudbury's Women Rehabilitation Centre the Domestic Abuse Services of Oxford County and the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish (Woodstock). Jim loved spending his summers at the cottage on Manitoulin Island (which he built) with close friends and family. Equally enjoyable were his winters, whereby he spent most of his time shuttling the three boys to hockey practices, games and tournaments. Every moment of his retirement was enjoyed visiting with family and friends, sailing, camping, traveling the world and wintering in Florida. A proud husband and father, he saw each of his boys become professionals in their own right, marrying and starting families of their own. He truly cherished every moment spent with his loving grandchildren. Jim will be remembered for his contagious laugh, fondness for jokes, professional integrity, selfless spirit, and loving nature. Friends will be received at the SMITH-LeROY FUNERAL HOME , 69 Wellington Street North, Woodstock on Friday, March 18, 2016 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Prayers will be said at 4 p.m. A funeral mass will take place on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 11 a.m, Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1420 Devonshire Avenue, Woodstock with Father Rick Dales as celebrant.
