Oakville and Burlington Dr. James Kovacs will be among a number of local doctors joining others in a rally at Queen's Park Saturday (April 23) to voice concern about Ontario's healthcare system. Kovacs is a member of Concerned Ontario Doctors, a 11,000-member strong group that formed last September to advocate for themselves and patients, after they were informed the government was cutting doctors' fees by 1.3 per cent beginning October 2015 -- on top of a 3.15 per cent cut earlier in February 2015. Organizers say 500-1,000 people are expected to attend the Toronto event, with people being bused in from Ottawa, Sudbury, Barry, North Bay and other areas to peacefully protest against the cuts and recent policy changes. It will begin at noon on the south lawn of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, with a protest march to follow along on College Street in Toronto, south on Bay Street, west on Dundas Street and north on University Avenue. see Doctors on p.3 Teacher Samantha Buchan-Hill selects novels for her students during the Friends of the Library's Spring Book Sale held last weekend in the Central Library Branch Auditorium.
