Crime statistics made public at a recent Halton Regional Police Services Board meeting show that for last year the crime rate -- the number of crimes per 100,000 people (1,831) -- was the lowest it has been in more than 40 years. Nearly 10,000 crimes were reported in Halton in 2015 (9,954), 287 less than in 2014, for a crime rate reduction yearover-year of 2.8 per cent. However, when population growth is factored in the crime rate decrease is even steeper, 5.1 per cent. Total calls for service decreased by one per cent in 2015 over 2014 to 151,355, an average of 415 per day. While the overall crime rate was down in 2015, violent crime rose 4.1 per cent, but just 1.6 per cent when considering population growth. There were 1,973 such incidents last see Impaired on p.4 Oakville Beaver Staff Oakville Ward 1 Councillor Ralph Robinson was recognized with a plaque for playing an active role in Oakville's Terry Fox Run over its 36 years.
