On Wednesday at around 11:20 a.m., Halton police observed a man dressed like a police officer and driving what appeared to be a police vehicle in the vicinity of the Cross Avenue Tim Hortons. They described the man as a white male, 5-foot-11, with a heavy build. He was dressed in a dark blue uniform, body armour and a police-style duty belt which contained bear spray and handcuffs. Police say he was operating a black 2010 Ford Crown Victoria Police interceptor that had a police spotlight on the front driver side pillar and an internal light package with illuminating amber and red lights attached to the front and rear windows. Police say an investigation soon led to the discovery that the man was not a police officer. An arrest was made. Peter Hunt, 48, of St. Catharines is charged with two counts of personating a peace officer. Police say Hunt is currently facing similar charges with the Ontario Provincial Police. At 9:10 p.m., Halton police observed two vehicles travelling at a high rate of speed on Trafalgar Road, north of Dundas Street. Officers allege the vehicles were driving at a speed of more than 140 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. After the vehicles were pulled over both individuals were charged with stunt driving. Their driver's licences were suspended and their vehicles will be impounded for seven days. Halton police are reminding residents that the higher the speed of the vehicle, the greater the distance it requires to stop. On dry roads, at 140 km/h a vehicle requires approximately 100 metres to stop while a vehicle travelling at 80 km/h on the same road requires only 30 metres to stop.
