Less than two weeks later, the Blades also lost to Hamilton 5-2. Since that time, however, the Blades have been doing a lot of catching up, rising to fourth place. And Ruberto has also been catching up. After a torrid week, last year's lead ing scorer for the Blades is again leading the club. And the Blades host Hamilton on Friday. Blades split a pair of shootouts By Sarah Elliott SPECIAL TO THE BEAVER Mike Ruberto, last year's leading scorer for the Oakville Blades, finds him self back in that familiar territory again after a torrid week of scor ing. In the last two games -- Thursday's 9-7 loss in Brampton and Friday's 12-2 victory over Buffalo -- the Blades' assistant captain has picked up nine points, including six goals, with a hat trick each night. In fact, his whole line, which also includes Chris Knighton and Marc Pinizzotto, have been on fire lately, playing consistently both nights. "We've changed up the lines a bit and the new lines are clicking well," said Ruberto after Friday night's provincial junior A hockey game. "My line mates seem to be finding me, making it easy to score." The whole team saw a big improvement on Friday night when they hosted Buffalo. Thursday's loss to first place Brampton was slop py, and the Capitals got away with too many offensive breaks. Nick Ball started in net for the Blades, but was replaced in the second period by call-up Josh Thursday, Nov. Adam Dennis, who has had the bulk of the work for the Blades this year, is expected to be out a couple of more weeks with a broken had suffered in the Blades win in Buffalo Oct. 29. Ball was disappointed with his game on Thursday night, but saw a big improvement on Friday, stopping 34 shots and making some key saves. "I feel like I've had a big weight lifted off my shoulders," said Ball. "We played solid all game. We won the little battles and it feels radical. I hope we can continue." Ball w asn't the only one to see improvement on Friday night. Forward Chris Brussa-Toi, whose line seemed somewhat flat on Thursday in Brampton, also managed a hat trick against Buffalo and had a great game. "Tonight we had more intensity," stated Brussa-Toi, after Friday's game. "We knew we had to win and we came out on top. "Last night's difference was we were flat, giv ing up too many odd man rushes. We didn't play well defensively in comparison to tonight. Last night we seemed to leave too many people open, but tonight we didn't let them get chances." The morale after Thursday night was low, and coach Jay Anderson was quite perturbed. "Anytime you play a team with a two-pointsomething goals against average, and you score seven goals on that team, you should win the game. It's as simple as that." The Blades have a bit of a break this week, and don't play again until Friday (Nov 9) when they host the Hamilton Kilty's, who are in second place. These two teams have met twice so far this season, and the Kilty's have won both match-ups.
