The goal was two-fold: investing in this sector would deliver real bene ts to our environment, and it would create more job opportunities for middle-class Canadians. I am very pleased to report that your federal government is following through on this commitment -- and companies, right here in Oakville, are bene tting. Local investment On March 4, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, Navdeep Bains, announced a combined $7.1-million investment in three local rms: Terrestrial Energy, Pyrowave and ARDA Power. Bringing technology to market The Government of Canada, through its investment in the Sustainable Development Technology Canada foundation, is supporting these Oakville rms in its efforts to bring their technologies to market. I am proud that these innovative companies are located in our community and are developing technologies that will bene t our environment. This multi-million-dollar investment will help position these rms to capture its share of the emerging global market for clean technology. Dozens receiving funding The announcement by Minister Bains included dozens of cleantech projects across Canada receiving more than $206 million in funding. Green technology research and development The government's commitment to green technology research and development garnered praise and enthusiasm from highranking American of cials in Washington last week. This is a critical step towards real action on climate change. Your new federal government has made good on a number of promises it made to Canadians during the election campaign, and I am pleased that our community is reaping some of the bene ts.
