That was a marked difference to just the previous week when residents were digging out from the biggest storm of the winter. The meltdown is just in time for clocks to spring ahead Saturday night as Daylight Savings Time brings lighter evenings. The Oakville Fire Department recommends changing the batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Oakville has regulated taxis since 1965 to ensure passenger safety and fair, consistent pricing. With the emergence of TNCs, like Uber, the Town is reviewing licensing options to ensure these companies also provide safe, reliable and consistent service when operating in Oakville. A TNC licensing review will consider community and stakeholder impact while focusing on health and safety, as well as consumer protection. The TNC licensing options available, include: amending the existing taxicab bylaw or creating new TNC-speci c regulations. TNCs are regulated in many U.S. cities. In Canada, municipalities such as Toronto, Hamilton, Ottawa, Edmonton and Calgary are reviewing bylaws with the goal of ensuring appropriate regulations are developed to provide safety for TNC customers.
