They also organized a group of 30 Oakville youths to help build 4,000 household protection kits sent through GlobalMedic to West Africa in December 2014 and have collected 25,000-plus school, food and clothing items for children in Canada. In 2014, Vishal collaborated and volunteered with the Canadian Museum of Human Rights, travelling to Montreal and Winnipeg to produce an interactive exhibit called Turning Points for Humanity to tell the story of his passion for the rights of children. Vishal helped draft the script and was filmed for this life-sized exhibit in which visitors can learn and be inspired by his story. Social media plays an important role in the networking and reach of EveryChildNow and is a tool whose value has not escaped Vishal and Ishan, according to their dad. The Oakville brothers were among a dozen youths, aged seven to 17 years, to be recognized with 2015 Junior Citizen Awards, sponsored through a unique program of the Ontario Community Newspapers' Association (OCNA) with support from its member community newspapers like the Oakville Beaver. "One person can make a difference... and one, plus one, plus one... can lead to dramatic change," said Dowdeswell, who thanked the youths, and gave their parents a special nod, for their efforts while encouraging the young people to continue the work they have begun. Now, more than ever, the world needs such efforts, said Dowdeswell. Besides being involved in martial arts and swimming and maintaining grades in the 90s, Vishal, along with Ishan, received the 2015 YMCA Oakville Peace Medallion, were named in the 2015 United Way of Oakville Top 20 Under 40, won the 2014 Oakville Community Spirit Award Youth Category and the 2014 Ontario Youth Service Award. The brothers via ECN have also been putting together a campaign to welcome children of Syrian refugees to Canada by collecting clothing, raising funds and engaging students to write welcome letters to the newcomers.
