STATE FARM Insurance Companies MARKHAM RESIDENTS FEEL IDES OF MARCH Between March 15 and April 4. three youths broke into or attempted to break into homes belonging to several Markham residents, stealing more than $4,000-worth of merchandise. The Youth Bureau of York Regional Police carried out a search warrant and recovered some of the property at a 15-year-old juvenile‘s home in Markham. The juvenile was charged with three counts of break‘ enter and theft, one of break and enter with intent and one count of possession over $200. ATTACKED WITH A CROWBAR On April 15 at 8 pm. Jeffrey Nourse, of Bramalea, drove a woman, who is separated from her husband, to Poplar Drive in Oak Ridges While he was waiting for his companion. the woman’s husband approached the car, opened the door and struck him in the face with a crowbar. Several windows were smashed and then the assailants left. They then drove to Paul Monaco Texaco on Woodbine Avenue in Markham at about 2 am. on April 9, entered the service station and armed with a tire iron, demanded money. Regional Police responded to an alarm at Simpson Sears Limited at the Hillcrest Mall in Richmond Hill. A man inside the building had gained entrance by scaling a 10-foot wall on the west side of the store. When the intruder left the building from his point of entry, he noticed the police and fled the scene, leaving stolen radios, leather jackets and records behind. THORNHILL FIRE On April 14 at 1 p.m., a fire started in the home of Chaim Katz on Rosea Court in Thornhilll Markham Fire Department is investigating the $20,000 blaze and the cause is yet to ,be deter- mined. There was extensive smoke and heat damage as a result. VANDALS PREY 0N CARS At least four Markham residents had malicious damage done to their cars last week, between April 5 and April 11. Sometime between Aprils at 5 pm. and April 9 at 10 am. Donald Chisholme of Normack Drive had $150â€"worth of damage done to his car while it was parked at his home They were all charged with theft over $200, robbery, weapons dangerous. mischief to private property and possession over $200. Damage amountâ€"ed to $400 and $200 respec- tively and occurred between 6 pm. on April 10 and 9 am. on April 11. Rebecca Froude of John Street in Thornhill had two CB antennae worth $70 stolen from her truck at about the same time. ROBBERY ON OLD ENGLISH LANE On April 15 at about 8:30 pm. the home of Lydia Burchert on Old English Lane, Thornhill, was entered through a south side window. The master bedroom was ransacked and a quantity of jewelry was stolen. Damage and loss totalled nearly $13,000. Somebody got into cars belonging to Michael Marshall and Whelman Stone, both of Cedar Avenue in Markham, and sprayed the interiors with a can of red paint.
