"’â€"'“”“7._ a EXCITING ACCIDENT AT LEWISTONhQ runaway occurred near Lewiston, which came very near resulting fatally. Mr. \V. B. G. \Nalker left the Suspension Bridge in a carriage about the middle of the after- noon. \Vliile coming, down the mountain, above Lewiston, the horses became restive, ,.a_nd the ladies got out of the carriage and " "(walked down. On reaching the foot of the mountain. Mr. Walker stopped the horses and helped his sisters into the car- riage again, and “was jnnt closing the door, when, from some unknown cause, the horses started upon a run ,' violently throw- ing Mr. \‘Valker upon the ground and bruising his head severely. He managed to hold fast to the lines for a short time, the horses dragging him along over the rough stoney road, until he became ex- hausted ,anrl’ fainted. One. of his sisters (Miss Kate) Seeing him fall, managed to jump from the carriage before the herses had run far, striking on her head and com- pletely stunning her, while her sister Ma- Tia, left alone in the carriage, expecting every moment to be dashed to pieces. After repeated efforts, she finally succed- ed in opening the carriage door, and with all the strength she had left, threw herself out, fortunately clearing the wheels. She was considerably injured about the head I by the fallâ€"though not dangerously. Tl e horses. and carriage were found some six miles from Lewiston, apparently not bar- 'ng sustained any injury. A corrcsdon- F . i dent of the Loekport Union says Mr. W'alker and sisters though badly bruised, will recover. DASTARDLY Commonâ€"A dastardly occurrence took place on Friday evening, at DodsOn‘s stables, King street East, the perpetrators of which deserve. if ever any one did, summary and condign punishment. Late in the evening, about 11 o’clock, it was discovered t'rat the stable door hid been broken open, and that a span of val- uable horses, belonging to Mr. Lord, had been barbarously treated by some savage brute. The legs of both animals had been cut by an axe at the knee joint. air. Slo- man, veterinary surgeon, was sent for and bandaged the injured limbs, lint of course the animals, even although they recover, Will never be so valuable as they have been.
