I Life of Pi author Yann Martel visiting Oakville Public Library March 31 literary commentators across the globe as one of the most-anticipated books of the year. Filled with tenderness, humor and endless surprise, The High Mountains of Portugal is part quest, part ghost story and part contemporary fable told in three intersecting narratives. It tells a story of humanity's search for meaning, great love and great loss. The Globe and Mail recently praised it as "gleefully bizarre, genuinely thrilling and entirely heartbreaking," while the Washington Post hailed Martel's writing as "never (being) more charming, a rich mixture of sweetness that's not cloying and tragedy that's not melodramatic." Martel will be joined on March 31 by New Face of Fiction author Lynne Kutsukake. Her remarkable first novel, The Translation of Love, has received tremendous praise since its January release. Set against the backdrop of post-war Tokyo, Kutsukake tells the gripping story of a newlyrepatriated Japanese-Canadian girl who must help a classmate find her missing sister.
