Suddenly broken loose from its mother's arms, hurled through the window of the car onto the railroad track when the car went in the ditch was the cause of the tragic death on Monday afternoon of the nine-months'-old baby of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pickering, 25 Robert street, Hamilton.
Mr. Pickering and family were driving east on the Highway about two o'clock, and when about a mile east of the town, Mr. Pickering lost control of the Ford sedan for an instant while passing another car and it toppled over into the ditch. The car went into the ditch with such suddenness that all of the party were more or less jarred up, the baby was thrown clear of its mother's arms and going through a window of the car alighted on the H.G. & B. tracks. Its head striking one of the rails or a tie caused concussion of the brain besides a severe shock and jar. The little child was rushed to the offices of Drs. Buck and McLay where Dr. McLay rendered all the aid possible, but the little mite passed away a few minutes later.
Coroner Alexander was notifies and after a thorough investigation deemed an inquest unnecessary.
