The Oakville Fire department sent six fire trucks -- and approximately 20 firefighters -- to respond to the blaze. "They were on-scene within minutes and were able to knock down the fire that was in the garage and the second floor," said Gary Laframboise, Oakville's chief fire prevention officer. He said it was a "very successful save of the house," where firefighters stopped the flames from regressing into other parts of the detached two-storey home. The homeowners' adult son and two contractors were in the house when the fire broke out in the garage, but they were all able to escape to safety, Laframboise said. While the fire was brought under control quickly, firefighters remained on the scene until about 10 p.m. and a fire prevention officer stayed until about 4 a.m. to determine the cause, which appears to be electrical in nature, said Laframboise.
