Wednesday, August 29, 2001 THE OAKVILLE BEAVER D5 B By Angela Blackburn O A K V IL L E B E A V E R S T A F F e s t W h e e l s O a k v i l l e Lexus dealership eyes October opening C ooler winds may soon prevail, but the heat is on as Oakville's new Lexus dealership gets set to open this fall. Lexus o f Oakville, the upscale relation of Oakville Toyota, and one of six new, exclusively Lexus dealerships being built in Canada -- is well under construction on Wyecroft Road, just east of Bronte Road. The new car dealership, that's set to open early to midOctober, will offer Toyota's high-end products. It will also represent a choice for those local luxury car buyers who, with at least $40,000 in their pocket, have until now, had to venture to Mississauga or St. Catharines to purchase a Lexus. Heading up what amounts to one of the six brand new stand alone Lexus dealerships in Canada, is its new president and general manager Frank Apa, who has headed Oakville Toyota since 1991. Oakville Toyota has been in Oakville since the early 1970s and its outstanding customer service achievement is a major reason why Oakville was chosen as one of the new Lexus dealer ship sites. That, and of course, the fact that Oakville, and its environs, is home to a solid luxury car mar ket. "We've already pre-sold a half dozen vehicles," said Apa, noting, "It's a great sign, when you're not even asking for busi ness." The cars will be delivered once the dealership is open. Until now, Lexus vehicles have been sold from combined Toyota-Lexus dealerships. The new $4.5 million Oakville dealership is a "bold, new concept" for Lexus, admit ted Apa. It's one of three in Ontario (others are opening in Bramalea and Richmond Hill), and three other national sites -- two Vancouver area dealerships and Artist's rendering of the new 16,000-sq.-ft., state-of-the-art Lexus dealership now under construction at 2475 Wyecroft Road. The dealership is scheduled to open in mid-October and will include a customer lounge, a deluxe seven-car showroom and a two-bay customer service area. one in Montreal. Lexus of Oakville will be the second of the six to open. It's in the west end, specifi cally at 2475 Wyecroft Road, taking its place in a luxury car dealership neighbourhood that includes Jaguar, Volvo and BMW facilities. The prestigious franchise will service the Oakville/Burlington market from its two-acre site on the northeast corner of Wyecroft Road at Bronte Road. "Construction is well under way and everything is on sched ule. Everything's been a pleas ant experience. The tradespeo ple have been really dedicated and have kept working even through the heat wave," said Apa. In town to recently inspect the site were Yoshio Nakatani, President of Lexus Canada and Tony Wearing, Group VicePresident of Sales and Marketing for Lexus Canada. "It was their first visit to the site and they were taken aback by the progress on the dealer ship," said Apa. The new 16,000-sq.-ft., stateof-the-art facility will be home to a luxurious Lexus lounge, a deluxe seven-car showroom and a well-equipped, two-bay cus tomer service area. New car buyers will even take delivery of their purchases from inside the showroom, a delivery style that should let them know just how important they are. Shovels went into the ground on the project last spring thanks to Circon Contracting, which is in charge of the construction work -- all, of course, under the watchful eye of dealership designers, R.H. Carter Architects. Now, there's even a Website, www.lexusofoakv01e.ca. "There's not a lot there, but we keep adding information," said Apa. The site does boast an artist's rendering of the dealer ship as well as a location map. Apa said the dealership will have what's called a "soft open ing" in October, after which last minute construction details will be touched up. Then, Lexus of Oakville will celebrate the new year with a grand opening in early 2002. Going along for the ride with Apa on this new venture is his partner, Joe Zanchin, while Nello Basso will serve as its vice-president. The new Lexus dealership will have an entire range of the luxury Lexus vehicles available from the base $40,000 model, to this year's sold-out coupe model, and the new wagon-style Lexus due out this fall.
