"We'll be training adolescents and young adults, aged 14 to 30, from each chapter to provide one-on-one support and facilitate groups," said Doris Bums, executive director. Each chapter will be sending one mental health profes sional and three volunteers to the training session to be held one weekend in October. The training session is to run from a Friday night to Sunday evening. Bereaved Families provides support to families who have lost loved ones, and the new training will enhance services across Ontario. "Toronto and Halton-Peel started doing groups for chil dren who had a sibling die," said Bums, who was execu tive director of the Halton-Peel chapter before moving up to the provincial chapter. "Now some of our other chapters will be able to do the same." The Ontario Trillium Foundation, an agency of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, receives its money, about $100 million annually, from charity casino revenues. It allocates the funds in four major sectors - arts and culture, sports and recreation, environment and social issues. Cyclists can choose from five routes, 5 and 20 kilometres rides on the Glen Abbey Trails, or a 60 kilome tre rides to Hornby and back. All rides will start and finish at the Glen Abbey Recreation Centre, Third Line south o f Upper Middle Road. The routes have been mapped out by the Oakville Cycling Club. Registration costs $25 each, $35 per family (two adults and two chil dren under 12 - additional children $15), and $75 for a team. The 30 registrants will receive a Tshirt, Roots hat, and an Oakville Monopoly Game. All participants will receive bottled water and have bicycle tune-ups cour tesy of Oakville Cyclepath before the ride. Oakville Family Chiropractic Centre will `tune-up' the body. Radio coordinated emergency medical and mechanical support will be provided along the routes. It is recommended that cyclists wear helmets. A Finish Line Celebration BBQ will be held at the end of the ride, sponsored by The Fire Hall Cool Bar & Hot Grill. Master of ceremonies for the day will be Andy Stokes of AM740. There will be prizes for pledges raised. Participants raising $1,000 will win bikes valued at over $500; raise $500 to $999 and receive bikes worth $200; cycling jerseys go to those rais ing $300 to $499; and cycling helmets to riders raising $150 to $299. Proceeds from Bike Trek will be used to fund research into cures and better treatments for lung disease, and to support community programs in asthma management and smoking pre vention and cessation, plus air quali ty/lung health issues.
