"Pageant Recalls Giver of Laws"

The annual Six Nations Pageant, which began a three-weekend run Friday night, features the story of Denganawidah, the law-giver, whose birth was foretold by a spiritual messenger, and whose life united five warring Indian tribes during the 13th century. In one of the scenes (left) from the six-act play, being staged at the Six Nations Forest Theatre off the Sour Springs Road, Tadodaho, played by Bobby Douglas, receives the Antlers of Authority from his grandmother, Pat Jamieson, and Odatshedeh, Peter Isaacs, while Kyonkonhkoh, Dan Jamieson (left), and the young Deganawida, Kim Jamieson, and Hiawatha, Kevin Isaacs (right), look on. At right, Deganawidah's unusual depth of mind is revealed during his childhood as he explains to Sara, Lauren Jamieson, that he would rather build a trap to catch animals than to go hunting them with bow and arrow. The pageant continues tonight about dusk and Friday and Saturday nights for the next two weeks.
